TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team will open the conference portion of their schedule on Thursday night and will do so on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
This will also be 41st meeting all-time between Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma. In a series that dates back to 1980, Tech and SWOSU have played each other at least twice a year since becoming conference foes in 2011-12. Overall, Tech holds a 26-14 record in the series.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the GAC after dropping their conference-opener on Thursday night.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 73.0 ppg and rank ninth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank third in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 69.9 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 10th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .428 (174-of-407) and allow their opponents to shoot at a .445 mark (159-of-357) to rank seventh.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .292 (52-of-178) to rank 10th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .367 (54-of-147) to rank eighth. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .721 as a team (111-of-154) to rank sixth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have one player averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 21.1 ppg. Kade Shaffer is next in scoring and not far off from being at double-figures at 9.9 ppg. Three other Wonder Boys are averaging at least 8.0 ppg
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 8.6 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 4.7 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Shaffer at 1.9 steals per game and in blocks by Sims at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 138-98 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 304-204.
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Southwestern Oklahoma is 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play after beating Harding in their GAC-opener at home this past Thursday.
 
Statistically, the Bulldogs average 70.3 ppg and rank 10th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Bulldogs rank fourth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 71.8 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Bulldogs are 11th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .426 (143-of-336) and allow their opponents to post a .469 mark (159-of-339) to rank 10th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Bulldogs shoot at a clip of .270 (38-of-141) to rank 12th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .313 (45-of-144) to rank fourth. From the free throw line, the Bulldogs shoot .845 as a team (98-of-116) to rank first.
 
Individually, the Bulldogs have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Tobias Roland and his 18.3 ppg. Eli Al-Debaran is next at 13.0 ppg while  MJ Warrior and rounds out double-figure scoring at 12.0 pgg.
 
Roland is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.0 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Warrior leads the team and is averaging 5.0 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Bulldogs are led in steals by Warrior at 1.5 steals per game and in blocks by Warrior at 0.5 blocks per game.
 
The Bulldogs are coached by Brett Weiberg, who is in his second season at Southwestern Oklahoma and his seventh overall as a head coach. In his time as a head coach at SWOSU, Weiberg is 14-20 and overall he is 61-113.
