TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team will open the conference portion of their schedule on Thursday night and will do so on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
This will also be 25th meeting all-time between Tech and Northwestern Oklahoma. In a series that dates back to 1971, Tech and NWOSU have played each other at least twice a year since becoming conference foes in 2012-13. Overall, Tech holds a 16-8 record in the series.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys enter conference play at 3-3 and are looking to snap a two-game skid. Most-recently, the Wonder Boys lost on the road at Pittsburg State, 72-64, last Wednesday.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 72.7 ppg and rank ninth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank third in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.7 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 10th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .438 (153-of-349) and allow their opponents to shoot at a .438 mark (135-of-308) to rank seventh.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .314 (48-of-153) to rank ninth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .347 (42-of-121) to rank sixth. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .678 as a team (82-of-121) to rank eighth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have two players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 19.3 ppg. Kade Shaffer is next and rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.3 ppg. Three other Wonder Boys are averaging at least 8.0 ppg
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 5.0 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Shaffer at 2.0 steals per game and in blocks by Sims and Sean Cobb at 0.8 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 138-97 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 304-203.
 
SCOUTING THE RANGERS
Northwestern Oklahoma enters GAC action with a 3-3 record. They are coming a 92-71 loss at home to Friends University the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
 
Statistically, the Rangers average 84.3 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Rangers rank 10th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 84.0 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Rangers are eighth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .451 (172-of-381) and allow their opponents to post a .473 mark (175-of-370) to rank ninth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Rangers shoot at a clip of .348 (55-of-158) to rank fourth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .385 (55-of-143) to rank ninth. From the free throw line, the Rangers shoot .829 as a team (107-of-129) to rank first.
 
Individually, the Rangers have two players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Max Alexander and his 27.8 ppg. Camron McDowell is next and rounds out double-figure scoring at 22.4 pgg. The Rangers have two other players averaging at least 8.0 ppg.
 
Justin Norris is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.7 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Alexander leads the team and is averaging 5.2 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Rangers are led in steals by McDowell at 2.8 steals per game and in blocks by Kabeya Tshibangu at 1.3 blocks per game.
 
The Rangers are coached by Robbie Harman, who is in his third season at Northwestern Oklahoma. In his time as a head coach at NWOSU, Harman is 31-31.
