RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team put forth a dominating defensive effort in their final game before the Christmas break as the Wonder Boys beat Arkansas-Monticello at home, 56-33.
The 33 points allowed by the Wonder Boys are the lowest in a game since 2010 when they held Eclessia to 37 points. The last time the Wonder Boys allowed 33 points or fewer was back in the 1961-62 season when they held Hendrix to 33 points in a 42-33 win on the road.
In their stout defensive effort, the Wonder Boys held the Boll Weevils to 28.6% shooting overall for the game (14-of-49), 12.5% from the three-point line (2-of-16) and with just four free throw attempts total.
On their end offensively, the Wonder Boys were not as efficient as they would have liked and weren't able to create a ton of separation on the scoreboard, but still shot 40% overall from the floor (22-of-55). They were also 6-of-19 from three-point range with four of those makes coming from
Seybian Sims.
Overall, the Wonder Boys had three players score in double figures with
Cassius Brooks and
Braden Tanner each scoring 17 points. Sims followed with 12. Brooks added a career-high 10 rebounds to post a double-double.
The Wonder Boys will now enter their break around the Christmas holiday and will return to game action on the road at Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, January 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
