TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team looks to snap their losing skid this Saturday as they will be on the road at Southern Arkansas.
 
This will be 191st meeting all-time between Tech and Southern Arkansas. In a series that dates back to the 1927-28 season, Tech and SAU have played each other multiple times a year consistently as conference rivals. Overall, Tech holds a 109-81 advantage in the series.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING

The Wonder Boys are 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the GAC and are coming off a 75-61 loss at home against Henderson State this past Thursday.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 70.3 ppg and rank 11th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank fourth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 70.8 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 12th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .426 (216-of-507) and allow their opponents to shoot at a .465 mark (220-of-473) to rank ninth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .279 (61-of-219) to rank 12th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .374 (70-of-187) to rank seventh. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .704 as a team (140-of-199) to rank seventh.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have one player averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 21.4 ppg. Three other Wonder Boys are averaging at least 7.5 ppg
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 8.3 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 4.3 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Brooks and Shaffer at 1.4 steals per game and in blocks by Sims at 0.9 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 138-100 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 304-206.
 
SCOUTING THE MULERIDERS
Southern Arkansas is 4-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Muleriders are coming off a win their last time out as they beat Ouachita Baptist on the road, 95-94 in overtime this past Saturday.
 
Statistically, the Muleriders average 85.1 ppg and rank in a tie for second in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Muleriders rank eighth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 75.8 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Muleriders are second in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .502 (266-of-530) and allow their opponents to post a .461 mark (215-of-466) to rank 10th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Muleriders shoot at a clip of .326 (45-of-138) to rank seventh in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .399 (69-of-173) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Muleriders shoot .598 as a team (104-of-174) to rank 11th.
 
Individually, the Muleriders have five players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by BJ Davis and his 14.7 ppg. Kris Cook is next at 11.3 ppg followed by Christian Caldwell at 10.9. Rashad Bishop and Anthony Igiede round out double-figure scoring at 10.7 and 10.3 pgg, respectively.
 
Caldwell is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.2 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Nevi Tell leads the team and is averaging 2.7 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Muleriders are led in steals by Igiede at 1.3 steals per game and in blocks by Igiede at 0.9 blocks per game.
 
The Muleriders are coached by Mark Rutledge, who is in his first season at Southern Arkansas. Prior to his time at SAU, Rutledge was the associate head coach at Angelo State.
