TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is back in action at home this Thursday against Henderson State. The Wonder Boys will be seeking their first conference win of the season.
 
This will be 181st meeting all-time between Tech and Henderson State. In a series that dates back to 1930, Tech and Henderson have played each other multiple times a year consistently as conference rivals. Overall, Henderson holds a 93-87 advantage in the series.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the GAC after dropping both of their games during the opening weekend of the conference schedule.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 71.5 ppg and rank ninth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank third in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 70.3 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 11th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .422 (193-of-457) and allow their opponents to shoot at a .456 mark (188-of-412) to rank eighth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .276 (55-of-199) to rank 12th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .374 (64-of-171) to rank seventh. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .728 as a team (131-of-180) to rank sixth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have one player averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 21.8 ppg. Four other Wonder Boys are averaging at least 7.5 ppg
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 4.5 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Shaffer at 1.6 steals per game and in blocks by Sims at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 138-99 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 304-205.
 
SCOUTING THE REDDIES
Henderson State is 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play after beating Southeastern Oklahoma and East Central this past weekend.
 
Statistically, the Reddies average 85.1 ppg and rank in a tie for second in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Reddies rank eighth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 75.8 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Reddies are second in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .502 (266-of-530) and allow their opponents to post a .461 mark (215-of-466) to rank 10th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Reddies shoot at a clip of .326 (45-of-138) to rank seventh in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .399 (69-of-173) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Reddies shoot .598 as a team (104-of-174) to rank 11th.
 
Individually, the Reddies have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Nehikhare Igiehon and his 13.1 ppg. Matthew Mayes is next at 12.4 ppg followed by Deazhon Perkins at 10.9 while Xavier Owens and rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.3 pgg.
 
Igiehon is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Mayes leads the team and is averaging 2.3 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Reddies are led in steals by Mayes at 2.8 steals per game and in blocks by Igiehon and Mayes at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Reddies are coached by Jimmy Elgas, who is in his 10th season at Henderson State. In his time as a head coach at Henderson, Elgas is 138-121.
