PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team played their final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon on the road at Pittsburg State and fell to the hot-shooting Gorillas by a score of 72-64.
Playing in their first home game of the season, Pitt State shot 44.8% from the three-point line as they made 13-of-29 from long range. Nine of those distance makes came in the first half with three coming in a successive flurry over the final 1:22 of the opening half. Prior to that, the Wonder Boys had fought back to pull within a point, 32-21, but the 9-0 burst gave the Gorillas a 10-point lead.
In the second half, the Wonder Boys continued to battle, but Pitt State was able to keep them at arm's length. That was until the Wonder Boys were able to methodically erase an 11-point deficit at the 11:12 mark and tie the score at 63-all with 3:53 to play in regulation.
Immediately following that tie, however, the Gorillas made a jumper their ensuing trip down the floor to maintain their lead. Over the remainder of the game, Pitt State was able to hold off the Wonder Boys as they out-scored Tech 7-1 to come away with the eight-point victory.
Offensively the Wonder Boys had two players in double figures and three with eight point apiece.
Cassius Brooks and
Seybian Sims were the ones in double figures as each scored 19 points. For Sims, the 19 points was a single-game high as a Wonder Boy. He also added a game-high 13 rebounds to notch his first double-double of the season.
Trey Allen,
Kade Shaffer and
Sean Cobb each scored eight points apiece.
The Wonder Boys will now direct their attention to the start of their Great American Conference slate, which begins on Thursday, December 5 on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
