TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is set to conclude its non-conference portion of their schedule on Wednesday afternoon as they are on the road at Pittsburg State from the MIAA. It will be the fourth game for the Wonder Boys against a MIAA opponent this season.
 
This will also be 10th meeting all-time between Tech and Pittsburg State and the first since 2014. In a series that dates back to 1992, Tech holds a slight lead overall at 5-4. Pitt State has won four of the last five matchups, however.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are off to a 3-2 start to their season and are coming off a tough 69-67 loss at home against Missouri Western this past Friday night.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 74.4 ppg and rank ninth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank second in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 65.6 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are sixth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .457 (134-of-293) and limit their opponents to a .435 mark (110-of-253) to rank sixth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .339 (43-of-127) to rank fifth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .315 (29-of-92) to rank sixth. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .642 as a team (61-of-95) to rank ninth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 19.4 ppg. Kade Shaffer is next in scoring at 10.8 ppg. Jakob Zenon rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.0 pgg. Trey Allen is not far off at 9.0 ppg.
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 5.4 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Shaffer and Allen at 2.2 steals per game and in blocks by Sean Cobb at 0.8 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 138-96 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 304-202.
 
SCOUTING THE GORILLAS
Pittsburg State is off to a 2-3 start to their season. They are coming an 89-71 loss on the road to then No. 10-ranked Washburn on Tuesday, November 19.
 
Statistically, the Gorillas average 69.6 ppg and rank 13th in the MIAA. On the defensive end of the court, the Gorillas rank 11th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 76.4 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Gorillas are 11th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .437 (124-of-284) and allow their opponents to post a .444 mark (127-of-286) to rank ninth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Gorillas shoot at a clip of .333 (46-of-138) to rank seventh in the MIAA while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .353 (42-of-119) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Gorillas shoot .701 as a team (54-of-77) to rank 10th.
 
Individually, the Gorillas have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by R.J. Forney Jr. and his 14.0 ppg. Avery Taggart is next at 13.6 ppg. Tanner Mans rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.8 pgg. Darrell Washington is not far off double-figure scoring at 9.8 ppg.
 
Washington is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 4.8 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Jordan Frison leads the team and is averaging 5.6 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Gorillas are led in steals by Johannes Kirsipuu at 1.8 steals per game and in blocks by Tane Prictor at 1.3 blocks per game.
 
The Gorillas are coached by Jeff Boschee, who is in his third season at Pittsburg State and his 11th overall. In his time as a head coach at Pitt State, Boschee is 31-34. Overall, he has a 182-120 career coaching record.
