RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – With second grade students from all elementary schools in the Russellville School District as well as elementary school students from Russellville Baptist Academy, REACH, Dardanelle, Dover and Pottsville cheering on the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team, the Wonder Boys put on a show for the youngsters and beat Mission University, 97-70.
Early on the game was extremely close with the score being tied eight times and the lead changing hands on 14 different occasions through the first 13 or so minutes of action, but after the Wonder Boys recaptured the lead on an
Aiden Underdown layup at the 7:23 mark, they never looked back and eventually built out a lead as large as 13 points before heading into the locker room with a 10-point lead, 51-41.
In the second half, the Wonder Boys continued to assert their will on the game and swelled the lead as large as 30 points by the 9:17 mark. They would go on to win by 27, 97-70.
The Wonder Boys were led in scoring by
Jakob Zenon as he scored 21 points off the bench. All 21 of his points came from the three-point line as he made seven trifectas.
Cassius Brooks was next with 17 points followed by
Braden Tanner and his 16 points.
Kade Shaffer had 13 points while Underdown scored 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting to round out double-figure scoring.
Underdown also added seven rebounds to lead the team. Shaffer had six assists to lead the Wonder Boys while
Trey Allen had six steals to pace the team.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a home game this coming Friday night against Missouri Western of the MIAA for a key in-region game. Tip-off from Tucker Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.
