TIPPING OFF
The No. 24/25-ranked Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is set to take on their first road test of the year on Saturday afternoon as they will take on nationally-ranked Dallas Baptist.
The No. 5/12 ranked Patriots have been to seven NCAA Regional Tournaments since 2015-16, including an appearance last season.
This will be third meeting all-time between Tech and DBU with both previous meetings coming back in the 2007-08 season. In the home-and-home agreement that season, the Wonder Boys won both games, winning 83-81 on the road and then 10 days later, winning 99-81 at home.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are off to a 2-0 start to their season after winning both of their games opening weekend as part of the GAC/MIAA crossover challenge. In the opening weekend, the Wonder Boys beat Missouri Southern, 61-56, and then followed up with a 95-64 blowout win over Newman.
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 78.0 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 60.0 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are fourth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .455 (55-of-121) and limit their opponents to a .404 mark (42-of-104) to rank second.
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .380 (19-of-50) to rank third in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .281 (9-of-32) to rank second. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .675 as a team (27-of-40) to rank eighth.
Individually, the Wonder Boys have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by
Cassius Brooks and his 20.0 ppg.
Kade Shaffer is next in scoring at 18.0 pgg while
Jakob Zenon and
Trey Allen round out double-figure scoring at 11.0 ppg and 10.0 ppg, respectively.
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game. In terms of assists,
Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 6.0 assists per game.
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by
Shaffer at 3.5 steals per game and in blocks by
Sean Cobb at 2.0 blocks per game.
The Wonder Boys are coached by
Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 137-94 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 303-200.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
The No. 5/12-ranked Dallas Baptist Patriots are off to a 4-1 start to their season and have won three-straight games. Their most-recent win came this past Saturday against No. 21-ranked Colorado Mesa as DBU routed the Mavericks, 92-69.
Statistically, the Patriots average 86.4 ppg and rank second in the Lone Star Conference (LSC). On the defensive end of the court, the Patriots rank 3rd in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 75.0 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Patriots are 10th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .422 (158-of-374) and allow their opponents to post a .429 mark (115-of-268) to rank ninth.
From beyond-the-arc, the Patriots shoot at a clip of .333 (42-of-126) to rank fourth in the LSC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .345 (39-of-113) to rank 11th. From the free throw line, the Patriots shoot .632 as a team (74-of-117) to rank 15th.
Individually, the Patriots have two players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by
Ricky Lujan and his 17.4 ppg.
Adam Moore is next and rounds out double-figure scoring at 15.6 pgg. Three other players are averaging at least 8.0 ppg.
Cameron Kahn is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.2 rebounds per game. In terms of assists,
Xavion Brown leads the team and is averaging 4.0 assists per game.
Defensively, the Patriots are led in steals by
Lujan at 2.6 steals per game and in blocks by
Jackson McCabe at 1.0 blocks per game.
The Patriots are coached by
Dr. Blake Flickner, who is in his 19th season at Dallas Baptist. In his time as a head coach at DBU,
Flickner has amassed a 345-211 record and has had eight 20-plus win seasons.
