TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is set to hit the road for a pair of important games this week and will make their first stop at Southeastern Oklahoma for a showdown matchup on Thursday night.
 
This will be the 40th meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Southeastern Oklahoma in a series that dates back to the 1949-50 season. Overall, Tech leads the series, 22-17. Since the two became conference foes within the GAC prior to the 2011-12 season, the Wonder Boys are 15-11 against Southeastern Oklahoma.
 
This will be the second game between the Wonder Boys and Savage Storm this season. The two met back in early January in Russellville. The Wonder Boys won that initial meeting, 73-69.
 
Tip-off for Thursday night's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the Bloomer-Sullivan Arena in Durant.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 14-4 overall this season and are 10-2 in the GAC. Most-recently, the Wonder Boys picked up their third-straight win as they beat Arkansas-Monticello at home, 67-50, this past Saturday afternoon.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 74.9 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 65.2 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are third in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .471 (478-of-1,014) and limit their opponents to a .425 mark (395-of-929) to rank second.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .402 (158-of-393) to rank first in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .350 (120-of-343) to rank eighth. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .699 as a team (235-of-336) to rank sixth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Taelon Peter and his 19.8 ppg. Tommy Kamarad and Cassius Brooks are next in scoring at 12.3 ppg and 11.9 ppg, respectively.
 
Josh Mitchell is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.5 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 3.4 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Peter at 2.3 steals per game and in blocks by Mitchell at 1.9 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fourth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its eighth season overall, Downey has amassed a 124-91 record. Overall, Downey is in his 17th season as a head coach and has career record of 290-197.
 
SCOUTING THE SAVAGE STORM
Southeastern Oklahoma is 13-7 overall this season and are 9-3 in GAC play. The Savage Storm have won three-straight games. Their most-recent game was an 85-77 road win in overtime at Southern Nazarene this past Saturday afternoon.
 
Statistically, the Savage Storm average 86.0 ppg and rank first in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Savage Storm rank 12th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 80.9 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Savage Storm are first in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .484 (594-of-1,227) and limit their opponents to a .491 mark (595-of-1,213) to rank 12th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Savage Storm shoot at a clip of .365 (197-of-539) to rank second in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .392 (180-of-459) to rank 12th. From the free throw line, the Savage Storm shoot .797 as a team (334-of-419) to rank first.
 
Individually, the Savage Storm have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Kody Clouet and his 18.6 ppg. Brennen Burns is next at 15.7 ppg followed by Jett Sternberger at 13.7 ppg. Kyle Leslie rounds out double-figure scoring at 11.2 ppg.
 
Clouet is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Burns leads the team and is averaging 5.8 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Savage Storm are led in steals by Sternberger at 1.6 steals per game and in blocks by Clouet at 0.4 blocks per game.
 
The Savage Storm are coached by Kelly Green, who is in his 13th season as head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma and his 14th overall at the NCAA level. At Southeastern, Green is 198-158 and overall as a NCAA head coach, he is 206-176.
