Wonder Boys blast Bisons on Rivalry Night

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team left little doubt on Thursday night as they blew out Harding on Rivalry Night across the Great American Conference by a score of 91-58.

The 91 points scored by the Wonder Boys is a season-high and the highest in a game since the 2020-21 season when Tech scored 109 points on the road in double-overtime against Harding.

In reaching that high scoring mark this season, the Wonder Boys put together one of their most overall efficient efforts on offense to date. Against the Bisons, Tech shot 51.6% overall from the floor (33-of-64), made 10 three-pointers and missed just three of 18 free throw attempts.

The Wonder Boys also never trailed in the game and led for a remarkable 38 minutes as there was just one tie score, which occurred at the 19:13 mark of the first half. That lone tie was snapped a minute later on a layup by Kade Shaffer.

By the 10:46 mark, the Wonder Boys had built the lead out to double-digits and by the end of the half led by 23, 46-23.

The second half was much of the same as the Wonder Boys continued to shoot the ball well while also holding the Harding offense at bay. The largest lead of the game that the Wonder Boys would get was 41 as Bronson Smith hit a three-pointer at the 6:25 mark.

Harding would cut into that massive deficit some over the remainder of the game, but the Wonder Boys still won comfortably by 33 points, 91-58.

As a team, the Wonder Boys had nine of the 11 players that saw action in the game score with four scoring in double figures. Taelon Peter led the way with 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He was also 2-of-4 from the three-point line and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Cassius Brooks was next with 15 points followed by Tommy Kamarad with 14 points. Both shot 5-of-8 from the field. Sean Cobb had a breakout game with 11 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. His 11 points tied a single-game high while his 11 boards set a new standard.

The Wonder Boys will now turn their attention to this coming Saturday as they remain at home and will take on Arkansas-Monticello. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
