TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team remains at home for their second-straight game and will take on Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon.

This will be the 39th meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma in a series that dates back to the 1980-81 season. Overall, Tech leads the series, 24-14. Since the two became conference foes within the GAC prior to the 2011-12 season, the Wonder Boys are 19-6 against SWOSU.

As conference foes, the two teams met twice last season in the regular season with the series being split. Both teams won on their home court with SWOSU taking the initial meeting, 79-71 in overtime, and Tech winning the following matchup, 78-64.

Tip-off for Saturday afternoon's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Tucker Coliseum.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 11-4 overall this season and are 7-2 in the GAC. Most-recently, the Wonder Boys dropped their first game at home with a 65-54 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma this past Thursday.

Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 73.9 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.1 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are fifth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .460 (390-of-848) and limit their opponents to a .429 mark (333-of-777) to rank fourth.

From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .387 (126-of-326) to rank first in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .350 (99-of-283) to rank eighth. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .693 as a team (203-of-293) to rank eighth.

Individually, the Wonder Boys have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by
Taelon Peter and his 19.2 ppg.
Cassius Brooks and
Tommy Kamarad are next in scoring at 11.9 and 11.1 ppg, respectively.

Josh Mitchell is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. In terms of assists,
Brooks leads the team and is averaging 2.9 assists per game.

Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by
Peter at 2.3 steals per game and in blocks by
Mitchell at 1.9 blocks per game.

The Wonder Boys are coached by
Mark Downey, who is in his fourth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint,
Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season,
Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.

In his time at Tech, which is now in its eighth season overall,
Downey has amassed a 121-91 record. Overall,
Downey is in his 17th season as a head coach and has career record of 287-197.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Southwestern Oklahoma is 5-9 overall this season and are 5-4 in GAC play. The Bulldogs are coming off a loss their last time out as they narrowly lost on the road at Harding this past Thursday, 60-56.

Statistically, the Bulldogs average 66.9 ppg and rank 11th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Bulldogs rank fourth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 69.2 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Bulldogs are 12th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .427 (323-of-757) and limit their opponents to a .412 mark (342-of-830) to rank first.

From beyond-the-arc, the Bulldogs shoot at a clip of .312 (81-of-260) to rank 11th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .299 (88-of-294) to rank first. From the free throw line, the Bulldogs shoot .684 as a team (210-of-307) to rank 11th.

Individually, the Bulldogs have two players averaging double figures in scoring and three more that are averaging at least 8.0 ppg. They are led by
Ben Smith and his 18.4 ppg.
Jalen Johnson is next and rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.6 ppg.
Denali Alexander follows at 9.2 ppg while
MJ Warrior and
Mark Berry are at 8.7 and 8.4 ppg, respectively.

Berry is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.4 rebounds per game. In terms of assists,
Warrior leads the team and is averaging 3.7 assists per game.

Defensively, the Bulldogs are led in steals by
Warrior at 1.3 steals per game and in blocks by
Berry and
Smith at 0.4 blocks per game.

The Bulldogs are coached by
Brett Weiberg, who is in his first season as head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma and his sixth overall. At SWOSU,
Weiberg is 5-9 and is 52-102 for his career.
