TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team has one more road game in the State of Oklahoma this week as they are at Southern Nazarene this Saturday for a Great American Conference tilt.
 
This will be the 23rd meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Southern Nazarene in a series that dates back to the 1983-84 season. Overall, Tech trails in the series, 9-13. Since the two became conference foes within the GAC prior to the 2012-13 season, the Wonder Boys are 8-12 against SNU.
 
As conference foes, the two teams met twice last season in the regular season with the series being split. Tech won the initial meeting 53-48 at home, but lost on the road, 57-43.
 
Tip-off for Saturday afternoon's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside the Sawyer Center in Bethany.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 11-2 overall this season and are 7-0 in the GAC. Most-recently, the Wonder Boys extended their winning streak to 11 games with a thrilling come-from-behind 68-65 win on the road at Oklahoma Baptist this past Thursday. The 11-game winning streak matches the longest since the 2016-17 season when the Wonder Boys won 11-straight games.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 75.2 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 65.4 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are fourth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .470 (343-of-730) and limit their opponents to a .422 mark (289-of-685) to rank second.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .395 (109-of-276) to rank first in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .323 (81-of-251) to rank fifth. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .691 as a team (183-of-265) to rank eighth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Taelon Peter and his 18.9 ppg. Cassius Brooks and Tommy Kamarad are next in scoring at 11.7 and 11.3 ppg, respectively.
 
Josh Mitchell is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.6 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Brooks leads the team and is averaging 3.2 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Peter at 2.5 steals per game and in blocks by Mitchell at 1.8 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fourth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its eighth season overall, Downey has amassed a 121-89 record. Overall, Downey is in his 17th season as a head coach and has career record of 287-195.
 
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON STORM
Southern Nazarene is 5-7 overall this season and are 2-5 in GAC play. The Crimson Storm are coming off a win in their most-recent game played at home against Harding this past Thursday night. The win against Harding snapped what was a five-game losing streak.
 
Statistically, the Crimson Storm average 72.2 ppg and rank sixth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Crimson Storm rank 10th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 75.5 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Crimson Storm are second in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .477 (307-of-643) and limit their opponents to a .472 mark (333-of-706) to rank 10th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Crimson Storm shoot at a clip of .348 (68-of-198) to rank fifth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .306 (78-of-255) to rank third. From the free throw line, the Crimson Storm shoot .678 as a team (183-of-270) to rank 11th.
 
Individually, the Crimson Storm have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cam Slaymaker and his 16.9 ppg. Ben Baker-McCann is next at 12.2 ppg followed by Benno Zecic at 11.1 ppg. Jonas Visser rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.2 ppg.
 
Baker-McCann is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Zecic leads the team and is averaging 6.3 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Crimson Storm are led in steals by Zecic at 2.0 steals per game and in blocks by Keeshawn Mason at 0.6 blocks per game.
 
The Crimson Storm are coached by B.J. Foster, who is in his first season as head coach at Southern Nazarene and his seventh overall. At Southern Nazarene, Foster is 5-7 record and has an overall record of 104-77.
