GAME NOTES

TIPPING OFF
As the calendar has turned to February, the 2022-23 regular season is down to its final month, making each game from here on out vitally important for all teams. Needing to finish in the top-eight to qualify for the upcoming GAC Tournament in early March, all 12 GAC teams are feverishly jockeying for position in the league standings during this stretch run.

Despite a tough road trip to the Sooner State last week, the Wonder Boys have the benefit of playing at home this week and are set to take on East Central on Thursday night and Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier this season, the Wonder Boys beat both ECU and Southeastern Oklahoma on the road and so they will be looking to secure any potential tie-breakers with a season-sweep.

In terms of all-time series histories, this will be the 38th meeting against East Central, and the 37th meeting between Tech and Southeastern Oklahoma. Against Southeastern, Tech holds a 21-16 lead in the series. Against ECU, Tech leads 19-18.

Talking Tech

In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.

In his time at Tech, which is now in its seventh season overall, Downey has amassed a 105-80 record. Overall, Downey is in his 16th season as a head coach and has career record of 271-186.
