TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team remains at home on Tuesday night and will take a step away from Great American Conference play to host nearby Central Baptist College for a non-conference game.
 
This will be the sixth meeting all-time between Tech and Central Baptist and the first since 2011. In the previous five meetings, Tech has won all five games.
 
Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Tucker Coliseum.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 4-2 overall this season and are in the midst of a four-game winning streak. The streak began back on November 16 with Tech's 75-72 win at home over Drury in non-conference action. Most-recently, the Wonder Boys have won their last two games against GAC competition with wins over UAM (87-81) and Ouachita (85-50).
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 77.2 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank seventh in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 72.7 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are fifth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .471 (162-of-344) and limit their opponents to a .459 mark (146-of-318) to rank eighth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .407 (50-of-123) to rank third in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .368 (49-of-133) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .690 as a team (89-of-129) to rank fifth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Taelon Peter and his 19.7 ppg. Cassius Brooks is next in scoring at 12.3 ppg followed by Seybian Sims at 12.0 pgg. BJ Johnson rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.0 ppg.
 
Josh Mitchell is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Brooks leads the team and is averaging 3.2 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Peter at 2.7 steals per game and in blocks by Mitchell at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fourth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its eighth season overall, Downey has amassed a 114-89 record. Overall, Downey is in his 17th season as a head coach and has career record of 280-195.
 
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Central Baptist is 8-2 overall this season and are currently on a five-game winning streak. Their streak started on November 17 with a 76-70 win against Baptist Bible. Most-recently, the Mustangs won their conference-opener against Columbia, 80-70.
 
Statistically, the Mustangs average 77.6 ppg and rank fourth in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). On the defensive end of the court, the Mustangs rank fourth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 67.6 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Mustangs are third in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .468 (282-of-603) and limit their opponents to a .401 mark (229-of-571) to rank fifth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Mustangs shoot at a clip of .378 (91-of-241) to rank second in the AMC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .313 (57-of-182) to rank fifth. From the free throw line, the Mustangs shoot .654 as a team (121-of-185) to rank sixth.
 
Individually, the Mustangs have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Sage Borbon and his 14.1 ppg. Deshawn Corprew is next at 13.4 ppg followed by Devin Foster who rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.5 pgg.
 
Corprew is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.9 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Borbon leads the team and is averaging 3.6 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Mustangs are led in steals by Borbon at 1.4 steals per game and in blocks by Foster at 0.9 blocks per game.
 
The Mustangs are coached by Sam Kohnke, who is in his third season as head coach at Central Baptist. In his time at CBC, Kohnke has amassed a 44-27 record.
