RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech junior guard
Taelon Peter has been named as the latest Great American Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week as it was announced by the league office on Monday.
It is the first GAC weekly award for Peter this season and the third overall for his career.
This past week, the Russellville native hit a new level offensively and helped lift the Wonder Boys to a pair of conference wins over Arkansas-Monticello and Ouachita Baptist.
In two games, Peter averaged 30.5 ppg on 63% shooting overall from the floor (19-of-30), 59% from three-point range (10-of-17) and 93% from the free throw line (13-of-14). He also added 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals across both games.
Against UAM, Peter tied a career-high in scoring with 33 points. He did so on 9-of-12 shooting overall which included 5-of-7 success from three-point range. He was also a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line with six of those makes coming in the final 16 seconds of the game to help Tech pull away and secure the win on the road.
Against Ouachita, Peter led all scorers with 28 and helped lead the Wonder Boys to a 35-point blowout win over the Tigers. Peter's 28 points came on 10-of-18 shooting overall which included 5-of-10 success from three-point range. He was also 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
