TIPPING OFF
Rivalry Monday is back across the Great American Conference, and with it brings a home game to Tucker Coliseum and the first of two games against Harding. Last year, the Wonder Boys swept both games from Harding, winning 68-63 at home and 85-73 on the road.
 
In terms of all-time series history, this will be the 151st meeting between Tech and Harding. Tech leads the series 86-64.
 
Tech Tidbits
The Wonder Boys enter play on Monday night with a 10-6 overall record and are tied for second place in the Great American Conference standings at 8-2. This past week, the Wonder Boys won both of their games in thrilling comeback fashion.
 
On the road at UAM, the Wonder Boys overcame their lowest scoring first half of the season and got the game-tying and go-ahead free throw makes from Andre Leavell with five seconds left in the game to slip past the Boll Weevils. Two days later, the Wonder Boys had another relatively slow start offensively, but shot 75% overall in the second half to ease past Ouachita at home.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys are averaging 65.3 ppg and rank 12th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank second in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 62.8 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 11th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .428 (380-of-888) and limit their opponents to a .407 mark (348-of-855) to rank third.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .267 (86-of-322) to rank 12th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .343 (116-of-338) to rank seventh. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .635 as a team (198-of-312) to rank 11th.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have two players averaging double figures in scoring. Taelon Peter leads the way at 14.2 ppg. Andre Leavell is next and rounds out double-figure scoring with an average of 10.1 ppg.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his third season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its seventh season overall, Downey has amassed a 104-77 record. Overall, Downey is in his 16th season as a head coach and has career record of 270-184.
 
Scouting the Bisons
Harding enters Monday night's game with a 5-11 overall record and are 1-9 in GAC play. The Bisons are in the midst of a four-game losing streak, with all of those losses have come in GAC action. The last win for Harding came on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma back on January 7.
 
Statistically for the year, the Bisons are averaging 71.9 ppg on offense to rank seventh in the GAC and are giving up an average of 75.2 ppg to rank ninth in the GAC. In terms of field goal percentages, Harding shoots at a .450 clip overall (433-of-962) to rank ninth in the league and allow opponents to shoot at a mark of .458 (444-of-969) to rank 10th.
 
From three-point range, the Bisons shoot at a .310 clip (109-of-352) to rank 10th in the GAC and allow opponents to shoot .343 (120-of-350) from range to rank sixth. At the charity stripe, the Boll Weevils shoot .752 (176-of-234) to rank fourth in the GAC.
 
Individually, the Bisons have one player scoring in double figures in Taylor Currie. Currie is currently the leading individual scorer in the GAC at 22.1 ppg. He is also the leading rebounder in the GAC at 9.8 boards per game. Two other Bisons average at least 8.0 ppg offensively.
 
The Bisons are coached by Jeff Morgan, who is in his 30th season as head coach at Harding. Over the course of his lengthy career, Morgan has won 446 games at Harding and has had six seasons with at least 20 wins. He has led the Bisons to conference regular season titles three times. For one year prior to coming to Harding, Morgan was the head coach at West Texas A&M where he went 17-10, giving him an overall career win total of 463.
