SEARCY, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team wrapped up their regular season slate on the road on Saturday afternoon against Harding and dropped the series finale by a score of 9-3. Despite the loss and overall weekend sweep, the Wonder Boys are still going to be a part of the upcoming Great American Conference Tournament and will be the No. 8-seed.
In Saturday's game, the Wonder Boys (25-21, 15-17 GAC) fell into an early hole as the Bisons (31-17, 21-12 GAC) took advantage of two Tech errors and turned them into four unearned runs.
Tech cracked the scoreboard for the first time themselves in the top of the third as they scored a run on two hits.
Carter Thessing led off the inning with a double to right-centerfield. Two batters later he was moved to third where
Sam Stephenson drove him home on an infield single to shortstop.
Harding answered that run with one on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third. The Bisons proceeded add four more runs over the next three innings with single tallies in the fourth and fifth and two in the sixth.
In the top of the ninth, the Wonder Boys put together a rally with production coming off their bench.
Following a leadoff strikeout, the Wonder Boys had four-straight pinch-hitters.
Colton Richards was the first of those and singled to right field.
Ty Van Meter then got a pinch-hit appearance and doubled to left to advance Richards to third. Kaleb Trammel then picked up his first collegiate RBI as he grounded out to second base, scoring Richards.
Ben Jones then received his first collegiate at-bat and doubled down the third base line, scoring Van Meter.
As the No. 8-seed, the Wonder Boys will take on top-seeded Southern Arkansas in the opening round of the 2022 Great American Conference Tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. All games at this year's GAC Tournament will take place at the newly-constructed Majestic Park in Hot Springs, Ark.
