CLINTON, Miss. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team dropped a mid-week game on the road at Mississippi College on Wednesday night by a score of 8-3.
The Wonder Boys (9-7) jumped out on top first as
Josh Detweiler hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the inning, Mississippi College scored a pair of two-out unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead.
After neither team scored in the fourth, Tech knotted the game at two-all on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Yadier Medina. Earlier that inning,
Trace Maddux walked to lead off. He then stole second ahead of a walk to
Evan Hafley. Maddux then advanced to third two batters later on a wild pitch to set up the sac fly for Medina.
The Choctaws (7-12) responded in the bottom half and grabbed control of the game as they scored five runs on four hits and took advantage of a Tech error as well.
That score held until the top of the seventh when Tech scratched across their final run of the game on another sacrifice fly. This one was off the bat of Hafley and scored
Carter Thessing, who led off the inning with a single.
MC added their final run of the game with a leadoff home run out to left field in the bottom of the eighth.
The Wonder Boys will now return home and prepare for a three-game conference series with Arkansas-Monticello over the weekend. Originally scheduled for Friday-Saturday, the threat of inclement weather across the state on Friday has prompted the series to push back a day and be played. Saturday-Sunday. Saturday will have a single game starting at 3 p.m. The doubleheader is set to be played on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
