TIPPING OFF
Coming off a nice win at home over Arkansas-Monticello, Arkansas Tech looks ahead to their two games this week.
The Golden Suns will be on the road this week for two games. Arkansas Tech finds themselves going head-to-head against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday night and Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday. The game against the Rangers will be Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. while the game against the Bulldogs is set for a tip- off time of 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Weatherford.
The Golden Suns dropped their first game of the season against Southwestern Okla. 71-105 at home. In their first game against Northwestern Okla., Tech got a 65- 58 win at home.
With a 13-9 record on the year, the Golden Suns have shown that they are a team with a lot of resilience. Their 94-84 win against Southern Arkansas at home showed how elite the Golden Suns can be when scoring the ball with two players scoring over 20 points.
Against East Central on the road, the Golden Suns found some hot shooting as the team hit 44.4% of their shots from long range to end the Tigers five game win streak.
The Golden Suns had their best performance of the season against Southern Nazarene on the road where they controlled the entire game and won 80-52. Three members of the Golden Suns hit double figures in scoring, all above 15 points or more. The team also shot a season high 60.0% (6-of-10) from three.
TECH TIDBITS
Arkansas Tech enters this week with a 13-9 overall record and an 10-8 record among conference opponents. Their last outing proved to be a big time win at home against Arkansas-Monticello as the Golden Suns came out on top with the 93-61 win.
Statistically, this year, the Golden Suns are averaging 75.1 ppg and rank fourth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Golden Suns rank eighth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 70.4 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Golden Suns are third in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .430 (596-of-1386) and are limiting their opponents to a .396 mark (541-of-1365) to rank seventh.
From beyond-the-arc, the Golden Suns are shooting at a clip of .327 (122-of-373) to rank eighth in the GAC while their opponents are making three-pointers at a mark of .337 (143-of- 424) to rank eleventh. From the free throw line, the Golden Suns are shooting .735 as a team (339-of-461) to rank fourth.
Individually, the Golden Suns have three players averaging double figures in scoring. Kaley Shipman leads the way at 17.5 ppg. Jayana Sanders is next at 14.4 ppg. Rounding out the list of the double figure scorers for Arkansas Tech is Ashlei Lopez who is averaging 14.1 ppg .
The Golden Suns are coached by Dave Wilbers, who is in his 15th season on the sidelines at Tech. A member of the 300-career win club, Wilbers has a career record of 325-104.
Overall in his time at Tech, Wilbers has kept the Golden Suns as perennial contenders in the GAC, the region and the nation, winning 20 or more games nine times, capturing seven conference regular championships, five conference tournament championships and advancing to nine NCAA Regional Tournaments.
SCOUTING THE RANGERS
Northwestern Oklahoma enters Thursday's conference game at 13-11 overall with a 9-9 record in conference play and are coming off a loss on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma 58-92.
In their first game against the Golden Suns this season, the Rangers lost 58-65 in Tucker Coliseum. Jayana Sanders proved to be a problem on offense scoring 19 points in the game and Nikki Metcalfe gave them issues on defense blocking six shots against the Rangers.
Statistically this season, the Rangers average 71.8 ppg on offense to rank seventh in the GAC and give up an average of 63.7 ppg to rank second in the GAC. In terms of field goal percentages, NWOSU shoots at a .424 clip overall (572-of-1348) to rank fifth and is allowing opponents to shoot at a mark of .377 (510-of-1354) to rank second.
From three-point range, the Rangers shoot at a .332 clip (151-of-455) to rank sixth in the GAC and are allowing their opponents to shoot .313 (177-of-565) from range to rank sixth. At the charity stripe, the Rangers shoot .768 (358-of-466) to rank second in the GAC.
Individually, the Rangers have two players scoring in double figures and are led by Bailey Brown who is averaging a near double-double this season with 18.8 ppg and 8.2 rpg. Brown also shoots an impressive 50.8% from filed goal range and 42.4 % from beyond the arc this season. Scout Frame closes out the list of double figure scorers for Northwestern Oklahoma averaging a total of 15.8 ppg.
The Rangers are coached by Tasha Diesselhorst, who is in her sixth season at the helm of Northwestern. In her time as the Rangers coach, Diesselhorst has amassed a 66-91 overall record.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Southwestern Oklahoma State enters Saturday's conference game at 22-4 overall with a 16-2 record in conference play and are coming off a 92-58 win at home over Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Bulldogs are currently riding a seven game win streak and sit as the No. 1 team in the GAC.
In their first matchup against the Golden Suns this season, the Bulldogs handed the Golden Suns their worst loss of the season at home winning 105-71.
Statistically this season, the Bulldogs average 82.4 ppg on offense to rank first in the GAC and give up an average of 66.0 ppg to rank fifth in the GAC. In terms of field goal percentages, SWOSU shoots at a .432 clip overall (765-of-1769) to rank second and is allowing opponents to shoot at a mark of .379 (603-of- 1589) to rank fourth.
From three-point range, the Bulldogs shoot at a .347 clip (250-of-720) to rank second in the GAC and are allowing their opponents to shoot .321 (160-of-498) from range to rank second. At the charity stripe, the Bulldogs shoot .709 (282-of-398) to rank eighth in the GAC.
Individually, the Bulldogs have three players scoring in double figures and are led by Makyra Tramble who is averaging 20.2 ppg. Lauren Ramey is the next double figure scorer for Southwestern Oklahoma at 12.8 ppg. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Bulldogs is Macy Gore with 10.8 ppg.
The Bulldogs are coached by Kelsi Musick, who is in her thirteenth season at the helm of Southwestern Oklahoma State's program. In her time as the Bulldog's coach, Music has amassed a 231-124 overall record.
