RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference unveiled its annual all-conference honors and superlative awards for women's basketball on Wednesday evening at an awards banquet on the eve of the start of the conference tournament. In that unveiling,
Logan Young and
AbbiGrace Cunningham garnered All-GAC recognition.
Young was lauded as a first team selection while Cunningham received honorable mention recognition. This is the first postseason conference honor for both Young and Cunningham.
A native of Dover, Young burst onto the scene for the Golden Suns and quickly established herself as one of the top overall players in the GAC. Young has played in all 26 games to this point of the season and made 25 starts.
She currently ranks in the top-5 in the conference in scoring (5
th; 17.1 ppg), field goal percentage (3
rd; .528), free throw percentage (5
th; .868). Young also ranks in the top-25 in rebounding (23
rd; 4.8 rpg), blocks (8
th; 26) and steals (13
th; 38). Her free throw percentage and field goal percentage rank in the top-40 in all of DII.
This season, Young has scored in double figures in all but five games, has scored 20 or more points 11 times and 30 or more twice. Her season-high in points was 32 against Oklahoma Baptist on January 8.
Cunningham, a sophomore from Atkins, is the second-leading scorer for the Golden Suns at 11.4 ppg. She also ranks second in rebounds (5.7 rpg) and free throw percentage (.817). Her 31 made three-pointers led the team.
The Golden Suns also had six players, including Cunningham, receive academic awards with all six earning GAC Academic Honor Roll plaudits. All academic honors are presented by: Conway Regional Health System.
