RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – In the final home game of the 2022 calendar year, the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team handled visiting Henderson State and extended their winning streak to five games with a 73-64 victory on Monday night inside Tucker Coliseum.
The win saw the Wonder Boys (5-4, 3-0 GAC) continue to play challenging defense as they held the visiting Reddies (4-4, 2-1 GAC) under 40% shooting overall and just 25% from three-point range. As the defense continued to play well, the offense took yet another step towards consistency as they scored at least 70 points for the third-straight game while shooting close to 50% overall from the floor.
Spearheading a significant portion of the offense for the Wonder Boys was transfer point guard
Andre Leavell. The sophomore Canton, Ohio native was perfect from long range, going 3-of-3 from deep and was nearly perfect overall from the field as he made 7-of-8 field goals. Leavell added four free throws to give him a career-high 21 points.
Leavell was also active on the defensive end with a block and a team-high four steals.
Two other Wonder Boys joined Leavell in double-figure scoring with
Taelon Peter scoring 17 points and
DeShawn Davidson adding 11 points. A total of nine players saw the floor against Henderson and all nine scored at least two points as the rest of scoring was evenly distributed.
The Wonder Boys will not turn their attention toward a road game at Southern Arkansas this coming Saturday. Tip-off against the Muleriders is scheduled for 3 p.m.
