RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Following their 80-53 win at home last Tuesday against Lane College, the Arkansas Tech women's basketball team gets set to take on Christian Brothers at home for the final game before the start of Great American Conference play on Thursday. The Golden Suns currently have a 2-1 overall record so far this season.Â
Arkansas Tech and Christian Brothers have faced each other just a single time between the history of the two programs. The Golden Suns earned an 84-63 win in that game which was played in Tucker Coliseum last season on November 20, 2021.
The home game against the Lady Buccaneers is set for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off tomorrow afternoon in Tucker Coliseum.
Tech Tidbits
The Golden Suns began their season on a high note with a 94-45 blowout of Champion Christian in front of the home crowd in Tucker Coliseum. Jalei Oglesby and Kaley Shipman led the team in scoring against the Tigers each putting up 16 and 15 points, respectively. Both also shot over 50.0% from the floor, while Shipman went 3-for-6 from beyond-the-arc.Â
Their most recent outing against Lane College was another impressive performance by the Golden Suns as they picked up the 80-53 win. Oglesby led the team in scoring once again putting up a season-high 18 points on 60.0% (6-for-10) shooting from the floor and going a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point range. She also collected three rebounds. four assists, two steals and two blocks on the afternoon. Four total players scored in double figures for the Golden Suns, including Oglesby, in the game against the Dragons with Shipman and Alex Hill recording 12 points each, while Dana Thompson contributed 10 points in the game.
In their first three games of the season so far, the Golden Suns are averaging 77.7 points per game on offense. They are also doing well on the defensive end of the court holding their opponents to just 53.3 points per game. On field goal percentage, the Golden Suns are getting 43.5% (94-of-216) of their shots to go down, while their opponents are hitting just 26.6% (51-of-192) of their shots from the floor.Â
From behind three-point territory, the Golden Suns are making 32.1% (17-of-53) of their attempts from long range, while opposing teams are making just 21.2% (14-of-66) of their triples. At the charity stripe, the Golden Suns are knocking down 57.1% (28-of-49) of their freebies, while opponents are hitting at a clip of 62.9% (44-of-70) from the line.Â
In terms of individual play, the Golden Suns currently have two players that average double figures in scoring. Oglesby leads the squad on a 16.7 points per game average, while Shipman follows with an average of 12.3 points per game. Oglesby has shot lights out in her first three games of the season hitting 55.0% (22-of-40) from field goal range and 40.0% (2-of-5) from three. Shipman continues to be hot with the three ball knocking down 45.5% (5-of-11) of her shots from long range, while also boasting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line this season.
Marta Duda leads the team on the rebounding battle with 7.0 per game off the bench. Following Duda is both Thompson and Oglesby who both currently average 6.7 boards per game. In terms of assists, Shipman leads the team with a 2.7 assist per game average. Behind Shipman is Hill averaging 2.3 assists per game.Â
On defense, Oglesby has stayed active in the passing lanes averaging a team-high 2.3 steals per game, while Sarah Edmondson has locked down the basket down low with a 1.3 blocks per game average for the Golden Suns.
Leading the Golden Suns on the sidelines is Dave Wilbers. While at Tech, Wilbers has kept the Golden Suns as perennial contenders in the GAC, the region and the nation, winning 20 or more games nine times, capturing seven conference regular championships, five conference tournament championships and advancing to nine NCAA Regional Tournaments. Wilbers surpassed the 300-win milestone as a head coach in the 2020-21 season in a 63-60 win against Arkansas-Monticello. Wilbers was also named the GAC Coach of the Year during that same season.
In his time as head coach of the Golden Suns, in which he is now in his 16th season, Wilbers has amassed an impressive 330-109 career record.
Scouting The Lady BuccaneersÂ
Christian Brothers is off to a 2-3 start to their season with their last outing resulting in a 67-75 loss on the road to West Georgia. Last season, the Lady Buccaneers went 9-17 overall with an 8-12 record in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers did make the GSC Tournament last season.Â

In terms of statistics, the Lady Buccaneers are currently averaging 63.4 points per game on offense. On defense, they have given up an average of 63.8 points per game to their opponents so far this season. Christian Brothers is currently shooting 40.4% (107-of-265) from the floor, while their opposition is hitting their shots at a 39.9% (118-of-296) rate.

The Lady Buccaneers have made 25.0% (24-of-96) of their attempts from behind three-point territory this season and are allowing opposing teams to hit the triple at a 29.2% (33-of-113) mark. Leading the team in rebounds is Coleman who currently averages 7.4 rebounds per game. Montgomery follows behind Coleman in rebounds with a 6.6 per game average. In terms of assists, Jones averages a team-high 3.2 per game.
Defensively, Coleman leads the Lady Buccaneers in steals with a 1.8 per game average, while
Darcy Doran holds down the fort inside with an average of 1.2 blocks per game.

The Lady Buccaneers are coached by Jessie Carmack, who is in her fourth season at the helm of the program. In her time as the head coach of the Lady Buccaneers, Carmack has amassed a 27-42 overall record.
