Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | By: Daniel Gallegos

Wonder Boys fall to Henderson State

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team had their brief two-game winning streak stopped on Thursday night inside the Tucker Coliseum as Henderson State used sizable scoring runs at the beginning and end of the game to upend Tech by a score of 61-53.

That initial scoring run by Henderson State saw the Reddies (4-5, 4-5 GAC) race out to a 14-0 lead before the Wonder Boys (5-4, 3-4 GAC) were able to crack the scoreboard at the 14:28 mark on a three-pointer by Tony Hall.

Following that initial bucket, the Wonder Boys began to work their way back into the game. Aiding their cause at the time was the three-ball as the Wonder Boys first three made field goals came from beyond the arc.

As the first half wore on, the Wonder Boys continued to find success from deep and connected on three more trifectas over a two-minute stretch that suddenly swung the lead in their favor, 26-25, with 1:43 left in the half. The Reddies answered back with a three of their own on the ensuing trip down the floor and took a two-point lead into the locker room.

Out of the break, the Wonder Boys came out aggressive and took another lead with just under a minute played in the second half. The Wonder Boys would hold on to that lead until the 10:23 mark of the half when the Reddies took a 42-41 lead.

That lead did not last long as painted jumper by Justin Briley at the 9:41 mark flipped the lead back to Tech. The margin remained within a possession over the next two minutes of action and with 7:29 left, the Reddies took another lead.

That proved to be the final lead change of the game as the Wonder Boys offense went ice cold the rest of the game. After reclaiming the lead, the Reddies would close out the game on a 15-8 run.

Statistically, the Wonder Boys had two players in double figures led by Hall's 13 points. Briley rounded out double-figure scoring with 11 points off the bench. Ke'Lyn Adams and Kimani Binder each had eight points. Hall also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds.

The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a Saturday afternoon game at Arkansas-Monticello. Tip-off for the game with the Boll Weevils is scheduled for 4 p.m. As a reminder, as per new GAC Return To Play Protocols, no visiting team fans will be permitted at UAM.
