TIPPING OFF
Less than 48 hours removed from their season-opening overtime win against the University of the Ozarks, the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team returns to Tucker Coliseum for their second and final non-conference tune-up ahead of their Great American Conference slate beginning this coming Thursday at Arkansas-Monticello.Â
Opposing the Wonder Boys on Sunday afternoon will be Southwestern Christian University out of Bethany, Oklahoma. Southwestern Christian is set to enter play against the Wonder Boys with a 1-2 overall record, but the Eagles have played in five total games with their last two times on the hardwood coming as exhibition games against a pair of DI opponents in Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa.Â
In the game against Ozarks, the Wonder Boys received a significant boost from their bench as they accounted for over half of the team's scoring output with 35 points off the bench. Leading that reserve spark was a pair of seniors in Ke'Lyn Adams and Cameron Kennedy. Both scored 13 points apiece to pace the team. Adams and Kennedy also put in work on the boards as each hauled in six rebounds. Half of Adams' boards came on the offensive glass while all of Kennedy's were on the defensive end.Â
One of the other bright spots from the game with Ozarks was the collegiate debut of Cejay Mann. The Alma native got the start and went on to fill out his stat sheet nicely with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting (3-of-9 3-point), five assists, three steals and two rebounds.
SCOUTING THE EAGLESÂ
Southwestern Christian University is led by second-year head coach Brandon Rollins. In his first season, Rollins led the Eagles to a 14-15 overall record and a 7-13 mark in the highly-competitive Sooner Athletic Conference. Off to the aforementioned 1-2 start to the season, the Eagles are currently averaging 95.3 ppg on offense and are allowing 89.3 ppg to their opponents.Â
Individually, the Eagles have four players averaging double figures with Ron Washington leading the way at 19.7 ppg. Not far off that average is Luiz Machado Jr. at 19.3 ppg. Khristien White and Charles Dickson round out double figure scoring for the Eagles with 15.7 ppg and 12.7 ppg respectively.
