LEE BREAKS GAC ASSIST RECORD AS WONDER BOYS TOP RANGERS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.– Senior Freddy Lee turned in a 12-point performance to enter his final home game with 535 career assists, eclipsing the previous Great American Conference record of 524 by former Northwestern Oklahoma guard Brandon Green, leading the way as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (11-16, 9-12 Great American Conference) won a tight 79-78 decision over Northwestern Oklahoma (7-20, 5-16) on Thursday night at Tucker Coliseum.

  • The Wonder Boys close the 2018-19 season at home on Saturday, March 2, facing Southwestern Oklahoma in a 3 p.m. contest. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Will Adler opened scoring in the first half with a 3-pointer just over 30 seconds into the contest, and the two teams battled, tradling leads through the opening five minutes.
  • A layup by A.J. Jones kickstarted a stretch where the Rangers outscored the Wonder Boys 9-0 to open up a 16-9 advantage with 11:33 to play. 
  • Jack Peck's layup at the 4:06 mark pushed the Rangers' lead to nine (32-23), but the Wonder Boys used an 8-0 run to pull to within one (32-21) with 2:40 to play in the half.
  • The Rangers carried a four-point (37-33) lead into the half. 
  • NWOSU seized momentum in the opening minutes of the second half, claiming a 12-point (47-35) lead with 16:34 to play. 
  • Tech outscored NWOSU 17-5 over the next six minutes to knot the game at 52-52 with 10:59 remaining.
  • NWOSU would reclaim the lead and Tech would tie the contest on the next two possessions before a 3-pointer by Alex Brown put Tech ahead 57-56 with 9:22 remaining. 
  • NWOSU briefly reclaimed an advantage, but back-to-back 3-pointers by the Wonder Boys gave Tech a five-point (65-60) advantage with 6:11 to play. 
  • NWOSU reclaimed the lead and pushed ahead by five points (78-73) with 1:38 to play, but the Wonder Boys would score the game's final six points, capped off by a layup with two seconds to play, to seal the victory. 
NOTABLES
  • RJ Glasper led Tech with 25 points, while Will Adler added 20. 
  • Glasper's 25 points, put him over the 1,000 career-point plateau, making him just the 33rd  Wonder Boy to score 1,000 career points.
  • NWOSU held a 30-26 advantage in rebounding.
  • Tech blocked five shots to NWOSU's 1. 
  • The Rangers outshot the Wonder Boys 53.6 to 50.9 percent, however Tech was 13-of-31 from long-range. 
  • NWOSU held a 10-9 advantage in points off turnovers, a 15-9 advantage in bench points, a 40-24 advantage in paint points, and a 11-8 advantage in second-chance points. Tech held a 12-6 advantage in fast-break points.
