Freddy Lee and
Alex Brown both scored 30 points apiece, going a combined 15-for-24 from behind the arc, helping the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (12-16, 10-12 Great American Conference) close out the 2018-19 season with a 115-102 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State (5-23, 2-20 GAC) on Senior Day at Tucker Coliseum.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the help of five made 3-pointers in the opening four minutes, Arkansas tech built a 17-11 lead.
- After a made SWOSU 3-pointer, Mason Cline scored six straight points to push the Wonder Boy lead to ten (23-13).
- Southwestern used a 6-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to four (23-19) at the 13:01 minute mark.
- Tech hit four 3-pointer over the next two minutes, all coming from different players, giving the Wonder Boys a 12-point advantage (36-24).
- The Bulldogs pulled within ten (38-28), however a 15-2 Tech run, highlighted by a combined ten points from Alex Brown and Will Adler gave the Wonder Boys a 23 point lead (53-30) with 7:06 to play in the half.
- SWOSU outscored Tech 15-5 over the next four minutes to trim the lead to 13 points (58-45) with 3:19 to play.
- Tech ended the half on a 10-3 run, taking a 20 point lead into the locker room (68-48).
- The Bulldogs scored the first four points of the second half to cut the Tech lead to 16 points (68-52).
- Tech maintained control for the remainder of the game. Tobin Johnson hit his first career 3-pointer at the 18:35 minute mark, sparking a flurry of Wonder Boys 3-pointers as Tech went on to drain 12 second half 3-pointers.
- The Wonder Boys grew its lead to as many as 30 points (100-70), before SWOSU closed on the game on a 25-9 run to bring the final score to 115-102.
NOTABLES
- The Wonder Boys hit 26 3-pointers in the game, going 26-for-52 from behind the arc. Their 26 made 3-pointers is not only a new school record, but also a new Great American Conference record.
- Alex Brown scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Brown finished his Tech career as just the 32nd player in school history to score over 1,000 points and also finished with 180 made 3-pointers, which ranks as the sixth most in program history.
- Freddy Lee scored a career-high 30 points, going 9-for-13 from 3-point range. Lee also dished out five assists, finishing his Arkansas Tech career with 540 career assists, the third most in school history. Lee also finishes his GAC career as the all-time leader in career assists.
- Lee finished the 2018-19 season with 163 assists, which is the sixth most assists in school history in a single season.
- Mason Cline scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Cline went 3-for-7 from behind the arc, giving him 179 career 3-pointers, which is the seventh most in Tech history.
- Will Adler scored 11 points, going 3-for-7 from 3-point range. With his three made 3-pointers, Adler tied Chad Keaster (1994-95) for the second most made 3-pointers in a single season with 109.
- R.J. Glasper scored 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and also added five assist.
- Tech's 115 scored points was a season-high.
