RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team will open the 2019-20 season this Friday and Saturday, hosting the GAC/MIAA Crossover at Tucker Coliseum. The Wonder Boys and Southwestern Oklahoma from the GAC will face off against Emporia State and Fort Hays State from the MIAA.
Friday's game times are at 5:30 (Tech vs. FHSU) and 7:30 (SWOSU vs. Emporia), while Saturday's games will be at 3 p.m. (FHSU vs. SWOSU) and 5 p.m. (Tech vs. Emporia). All games will be livestreamed on arkansastechsports.com, with live statistics available for all contests.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- The Wonder Boys and SWOSU are both looking to improve upon their 2018-19 seasons. The Wonder Boys finished ninth in the GAC with a 12-16 overall mark with a 10-12 record in league play, while SWOSU was the 12th-place team with a 5-23 record and a 2-20 mark in league play.
- Fort Hays State was the fourth-place team in the MIAA last season, going 18-11, with a 12-7 mark in league games. Emporia State went 14-16 with an 8-11 conference record. Only FHSU faced off against a GAC team last year - falling 94-90 in overtime to Northwestern Oklahoma.
- Junior guard R.J. Glasper joined the 1,000-point club last year and enters the 2019-20 season with 1,037 career points.
- Senior forward Ramses Sandifer saw key minutes for the Wonder Boys during the 2018-19 season, scoring 9.2 points and grabbing 4.7 boards per game.
- Fort Hays State is 1-0 all-time against the Wonder Boys, with a 76-59 win over Tech during the 1951-52 season, while the Wonder Boys are 2-1 all-time against Emporia. The Wonder Boys were winners in the 1978-79 and 1979-80 seasons, while Emporia claimed its win during the 1998-99 season.
