GOLDEN SUNS RUN PAST LANE

JACKSON, Tenn. - Jalei Oglesby scored a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double off the bench, leading the way for the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team (4-2) as Tech downed Lane College (0-3) 61-48 on Wednesday at the J.F. Lane Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Suns scored the first five points of the game, and would hold the lead near five points throughout the quarter. An Oglesby jumper as time expired in the first quarter gave Tech a seven-point (18-11) advantage after one. 
  • A 3-pointer by Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse on the opening possession of the second quarter pushed Tech's lead to double digits, and the Golden Suns extended the advantage to 19 (36-17) at the half. 
  • Lane chipped away at the Tech lead over the opening minutes of the second half, pulling to within single digits (39-31) after a pair of Ra'Keta Shelton free throws at the 4:22 mark of the third quarter. 
  • The Tech lead was cut to four (43-39) in the final minute of the third quarter before the Golden Suns scored the final four points of the period to push ahead by eight (47-39) entering the fourth quarter. 
  • Again, Tech went ahead by double figures (50-39) on a 3-pointer by Kaley Shipman on the opening possession of the fourth quarter, and while Lane briefly pulled to inside of 10 points (50-42) with 8:19 to play, the Golden Suns held the Dragons at bay down the stretch to seal the victory. 

NOTABLES
  • Stackhouse joined Oglesby in double figure scoring, turning in a 10-point performance. 
  • Jayana Sanders led Tech with eight assists, while Hannah Villines turned in a team-best two steals. 
  • Tech edged Lane in shooting percentage, connecting on 36.9 percent of their shots compared to Lane's 36.2. 
  • Lane led 16-8 in points off turnovers, 9-2 in fast-break points, and 30-24 in paint points, while the Golden Suns led 32-17 in bench points and 13-4 in second-chance points.
