WONDER BOYS SURGE PAST CHAMPION CHRISTIAN

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - R.J. Glasper poured in 27 points and dished out 13 assists, leading a cast of six Arkansas Tech players to reach double figures as the Wonder Boys (2-1) picked up a 102-77 win over Champion Christian on Thursday night at Tucker Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Champion Christian controlled the opening minutes of the game, grabbing a 10-5 advantage just over three minutes into the contest. 
  • After a Glasper 3-pointer gave the Wonder Boys a 11-10 lead with 15:21 to play, the Tigers reclaimed the lead and then pushed ahead, taking a seven-point (31-24) lead with 8:01 remaining in the opening half. 
  • With Tech trailing by five (39-34) with 1:47 to play, a Glasper 3-pointer kicked off a 9-0 run for the Wonder Boys that saw Arkansas Tech pull into the half with a four-point (43-39) lead. 
  • The second half was all Wonder Boys, as Tech quickly stretched its lead to double figures (54-43) four minutes into the half. Champion Christian was able to pull to within one (56-55) with 14:03 to play, but Tech outscored the Tigers 46-22 down the stretch to pull away with the win. 

NOTABLES
  • Tech outshot Champion Christian 50.7 percent to 47.5 percent. The Wonder Boys fired at a 65.6 percent clip in the second half. 
  • The Wonder Boys outrebounded the Tigers 37-34, and was 15-of-21 from the charity stripe. 
  • Tech forced 21 Champion Christian turnovers while only committing seven. 
  • The Wonder Boys held a 46-24 advantage in points in the paint, a 30-8 advantage in points off turnovers, and a 21-8 advantage in fast-break points. The Tigers held a 12-11 advantage in second-chance points. 
  • There were five ties and nine lead changes.
