RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys and Golden Suns basketball teams will return to action this Thursday and Saturday, traveling to Oklahoma for matchups with Southeastern Oklahoma and East Central.
Thursday's matchups in Durant are set for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. starts, while Saturday's games in Ada will begin at 1 and 3 p.m. Live audio, video, and statistics will be available at www.arkansastechsports.com, with the games slated to be carried live on 102.3-FM (KCJC) in Russellville.
The Golden Suns (5-5, 2-2 Great American Conference) resumed play on Sunday and fell 64-55 to Missouri-St. Louis in a non-conference tilt.
Jacie Higgins (12.0 ppg) has led Arkansas Tech in scoring, while
Hannah Villines (11.8 ppg) and
Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse (10.9 ppg) all average in double figures. Senior
Lyrik Williams (9.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg) leads the Golden Suns in rebounding while
Jayana Sanders (9.1 ppg, 3.5 apg, 3.1 rpg) has been the Golden Suns' assist leader. Tech is shooting nearly 43 percent from the floor while holding opponents to just a 37 percent clip.
The Savage Storm (6-4, 3-2) women have not seen the court since a 94-92 setback to Henderson State on Dec. 18, but three days before faced off against Ecclesia College, winning a 96-point (133-37) victory over the Royals - nine points shy of Tech's winning margin over Ecclesia. Katie Webb (20.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg) leads the way on both ends for the Savage Storm, while Kamryn Cantwell (13.0 ppg) and Briley Moon (10.2 ppg) also average in double figures.
East Central (7-3, 2-2) has won four straight, last downing No. 22 Central Oklahoma 75-56 on Sunday in Ada. ECU's three losses have come by a combined 15 points. Lakin Preisner (15.0 ppg, 8.9 rpg) is the two-way leader for the Tigers, while freshman Tia Williams (11.6 ppg) also reaches double figures nightly for ECU. The Tigers have outshot opponents 41.9 percent to 34 percent, but have struggled to get to the charity stripe on an even clip to their opponents, averaging 18.5 trips to opponents' 25.1 this season.
The Wonder Boys (2-8, 0-4 Great American Conference) will be looking to snap a six-game skid. Tech last found the win column with a 94-80 win over William Jewell on Nov. 17 in Warrensburg, Mo., but brings a potent offensive squad that has been led by the play of RJ Glasper (19.1 ppg, 5.7 apg, 4.2 rpg),
Will Adler (14.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg), and
Alex Brown (14.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg). Senior
Freddy Lee (8.2 ppg, 5.2 apg) has also been a regular starter for the Wonder Boys.
Southeastern Oklahoma (7-2, 3-2) last saw the court on Dec. 18, an 80-65 setback to Henderson State, but prior to that won seven of its first eight with the other loss of the season being an overtime setback at Oklahoma Baptist. Four players average double figures for the Savage Storm, led by Kevin Buckingham's 17.3 points per game and 9.8 boards per game. Kellen Manek (14.4 ppg), Jett Jobe (13.8 ppg), and Adam Dworskey (10.0 ppg) also reach double figures for the Savage Storm. Southeastern has torched the nets this season, shooting at a nearly 47-percent clip from the floor, while shooting 75 percent from the charity stripe.
East Central (5-4, 2-2) won an overtime matchup against Northwestern Okla. on Dec. 17 in its last contest before the holiday break. Camron Talley's 21.4 points per game lead the Tigers, while Da'Rion King's 14.6 ppg and Tylor Arnold's 10.0 ppg lead the way for ECU. Coach Ja Havens' squad shoots over 50 percent from the floor, connecting at a 50.6 percent clip, and hs been virtually even in the rebounding category all year, averaging 33.6 boards per game to opponents' 33.7.
