SUNS DOWN UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark.Hunter Eshnaur hit .395 with 18 kills, Tabitha Spray hit .400 with 11 kills, and Mackenzie Eford added 10 kills as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (9-7, 3-2 Great American Conference) downed UAM (2-16, 0-5) 3-1 on Tuesday night at Steelman Fieldhouse.

  • Arkansas Tech returns home on Monday, September 24 for a 6 p.m. match with Lyon. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tech and UAM went back and forth over the opening points of the first set. 
  • Tech broke a 10-10 tie by scoring six of seven points to run ahead 16-11. 
  • UAM would narrow the gap to three twice but the Golden Suns closed out the set strong to take a 25-18 win in the opener. 
  • The second set started off in the same fashion, with UAM grabbing a 12-11 advantage before Tech reeled off seven straight points to go up 18-12. 
  • UAM responded with a 7-0 run of its own to take a 19-18 lead. 
  • UAM forced set point at 24-23 but Tech knotted the set after an attack error. However, UAM closed out the set 26-24 to tie the match at 1-1. 
  • Tech slowly bult a lead in the third set, pulling ahead 12-7. 
  • This time, the Golden Suns kept UAM at arm's length and held on for a 25-17 set victory. 
  • A back-and-forth fourth set saw five lead changes before Tech was able to open up a five-point (17-12) lead. 
  • UAM rallied to tie the match at 20, 22, and facing match point at 24, knotted the set again. 
  • Back-to-back kills by Spray and Eshnaur sealed the match win for Arkansas Tech.
NOTABLES
  • Tech outhit UAM .277 to .126, going for a match-best .429 in the third set.
  • Tech outblocked UAM 13-6, led by seven from Greer Rogers and five from Mackenzie Eford
  • Emily Acker dished out a match-best 42 assists, while Eshnaur (19) and Madison Grantham (13) led the way in digs.
