SUNS SWEEP OUACHITA

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Allie Anderson turned in a 16-kill performance and hit .538, Emily Acker dished out 23 assists, and Madison Grantham added 13 digs as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (8-6, 2-1 Great American Conference) swept to a 3-0 win over Ouachita Baptist (11-4, 2-1) on Tuesday night at Tucker Coliseum.

  • The Golden Suns return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 18, hosting Henderson State at Tucker Coliseum. A 6 p.m. match is scheduled. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded leads through the opening points of the first set, with Ouachita jumping out to an 11-7 advantage. 
  • Ouachita held a solid lead through the 18-15 point, when the Golden Suns reeled off five straight points to claim a 20-18 lead. 
  • OBU came back and tied the set at 21-21 and after Tech forced set point at 24-22, Ouachita tied the set again at 24-24 after a pair of kills by Tabatha Huckabee.
  • The Golden Suns closed out the set with a pair of points to win the opening set 26-24.
  • Tech claimed an early advantage in the second set, jumping to a 7-3 lead. 
  • After OBU cut it to within 12-9, Tech scored five straight points to claim a 17-9 lead, and Tech was able to cruise to the 25-16 win. 
  • Tech raced to a 7-1 advantage in the third set. 
  • OBU staged a fierce rally to knot the match at 10-10 and briefly claim an 11-10 lead. 
  • Tech used a 4-0 run to jump ahead 14-11 but the Tigers came back, jumping ahead 17-16. 
  • The Golden Suns quickly reclaimed the lead, and after OBU narrowed the gap to one (21-20) the Golden Suns scored the final four points of the set to close out the decisive third set 25-20. 
NOTABLES
  • Anderson's 16 kills led all players. Tymber Riley added 10. 
  • Acker's 23 digs were a team best, while Delaney Saucier added 15. 
  • Grantham had a match-high 13 digs, while Meredith Darnell added 12. 
  • Mackenzie Eford added two aces and three blocks. 
  • Tech outhit OBU .301 to .130, hitting a match-high .379 in the second set. 
  • Rilie Vote hit .217 with six kills., while Riley hit .300.
