SUNS SWEPT ON FINAL DAY OF PEGGY MARTIN CLASSIC

WARRENSBURG, Mo.Rilie Vote turned in a 17-kill afternoon, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (1-3) was unable to overcome a pair of efficient offenses, falling 3-1 to Drury (3-1) and 3-0 to Truman State (3-1) on the final day of the Peggy Martin Challenge.

HOW IT HAPPENED - TECH vs. DRURY
  • The opening set saw Arkansas Tech control the tempo early, edging out to a 10-6 advantage. 
  • Drury used a 6-1 run to claim a 13-12 advantage, but the Golden Suns responded with a 7-2 run to push ahead 19-15.
  • Drury pulled to within 22-20 before the Golden Suns reeled off the final three points of the set to claim an early 1-0 lead. 
  • The Panthers jumped out to a 7-2 advantage in the second set. 
  • Tech pulled to within 9-8 after a kill by Amanda Milnick, and were able to knot the set at 19-19 after an attack error, however, DU scored five consecutive points to force set point at 24-19. 
  • The Golden Suns used a 6-0 run to force a set point of their own at 25-24. 
  • The two teams combined to force six additional set points before Drury sealed the 32-30 set win to knot the match at 1-1. 
  • Set three was a back-and-forth affair until Drury used a small run to jump ahead by a 17-12 score.  
  • DU stretched its advantage and claimed a 25-16 win in the third set. 
  • Set four saw Drury jump out to a 7-2 lead, and the Panthers didn't look back in the set, claiming a 25-14 win to seal the match victory.
NOTABLES HOW IT HAPPENED - TECH vs. TRUMAN
  • Neither team was able to create significant separation in the opening set until Truman scored five consecutive points to turn a 13-12 deficit to a 17-13 advantage.
  • Truman later used another run to stretch its lead to 24-16 before closing out the opening set at 25-17.
  • Tech controlled the early stages of the second set, racing out to a 9-2 lead. 
  • Tech held Truman at arm's length through the majority of the second set, leading 18-13.
  • However, the Bulldogs rallied to tie the set at 20-20, and took the lead in the set for the first time at 24-23, closing the second set with a service ace at 25-23. 
  • Truman carried its momentum into the third set, racing out to an 11-4 advantage. 
  • The Truman lead reached ten (17-7) after a kill by Holly Hildebrand. 
  • Tech cut its deficit to seven (19-12) after a kill by Eshnaur, but the Bulldogs scored six consecutive points to close out the set and match.

  • Vote led Tech with eight kills, while Eshnaur and Eford added five. 
  • Delaney Saucier turned in a double-double with 22 assists and 13 digs. 
  • Darnell led Tech with 17 digs and Eshnaur added 12.
