SUNS SWEEP SOUTHERN, SALVAGE SPLIT

WARRENSBURG, Mo.Hunter Eshnaur notched a team-high nine kills, Amanda Milnick dished out 30 assists and added 14 digs as the No. 14 Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (1-1) rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Missouri Southern (0-2) on Friday at the Peggy Martin Challenge.

  • The Golden Suns face off against Drury and Truman State on Saturday, the final day of the Peggy Martin Challenge. The Drury match is set for 9 a.m. and the Truman State match is set for 3 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arkansas Tech and Missouri Southern went back and forth through the opening set, with neither team creating much separation until Tech used a 4-0 run to claim a 16-12 advantage. 
  • MSSU narrowed its deficit to two (21-19), and was able to keep the match close but could not narrow the gap further as the Golden Suns claimed the opening set 25-23. 
  • Set two followed the script of the opening set largely, but Missouri Southern erased a three-point Tech advantage with a five-point swing, going from being down 17-14 to ahead 19-17, before Tech came back to claim a 25-23 win. 
  • Missouri Southern claimed an early advantage in set three, opening up a 12-8 advantage. 
  • Tech responded by scoring seven of the next nine points to pull ahead 16-14 and would never trail again, holding on for a 25-20 win in the decisive third set.  
NOTABLES
  • Tech outhit MSSU .378 to .297 in the opening set and .230 to .173 for the match.
  • Greer Rogers and Amanda Milnick were the most efficient hitters for the Golden Suns, with Rogers hitting .615 (8 kills on 13 swings) and Milnick hitting .636 (seven kills on 11 swings). 
  • Tech notched four blocks in the win.
  • Missouri Southern notched seven reception errors.
