WONDER BOYS OPEN GAC CHAMPIONSHIPS AGAINST SAVAGE STORM

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech men's basketball begins postseason play for the 12th consecutive season on Friday, as the fifth-seeded Wonder Boys take on fourth-seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State in the Great American Conference Championships. The first-round contest is scheduled for noon in Bartlesville, Okla.

SCOUTING THE WONDER BOYS
Arkansas Tech (18-10, 12-10 GAC) enters the tournament riding a three-game winning streak. The Wonder Boys concluded the regular season of play with a 70-63 win over Harding, an 82-76 win at Ouachita and finished with an 88-73 win over Arkansas-Monticello.
 
The Wonder Boys finished the regular season with the second highest scoring offense in the GAC and 25th-highest in Division II. Tech led the conference in made 3-pointers, and its 11.5 three-point field goals made per game rank 12th in Division II.
 
Tech won both meetings against the Savage Storm this season. Defeating SOSU 84-82 on a Montrell Williams buzzer beating 3-pointer in Durant, Okla. on Nov. 18 and beating Southeastern 72-65 in Tucker Coliseum on Jan. 25.  
 
R.J. Glasper, the GAC Freshman of the Year and an All-GAC First Team selection, leads Arkansas Tech with 19.7 points per game. During the regular season, Glasper led the Wonder Boys in three-point field goals, free-throws and steals. He is the only player in the conference averaging at least 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. Glasper averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds against Southeastern this season.
 
Williams, an All-GAC honorable mention, follows Glasper with 13.7 points per game, while leading the team in rebounding (6.4) and blocks (1.3). Alex Brown averages 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Freddy Lee ranks ninth in Division II in assist/turnover ratio (3.3) and fourth in the GAC in assists per game (5.0).
 
SCOUTING THE SAVAGE STORM
Southeastern Oklahoma State (14-13, 13-9 GAC) finished the regular season on a three-game losing-streak as the Savage Storm dropped a 100-74 contest to East Central, fell 68-54 to Southern Nazarene and completed the regular season with a 77-74 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State.
 
The Savage Storm are led by All-GAC Second Team selections, Markell Henderson and Kevin Buckingham. Henderson was second on the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor overall and 35.2 percent from beyond the arc. He also hauled in 5.0 rebounds per outing, and added 20 assists and 11 blocked shots. Buckingham led the team with 14.8 points per game on the season while shooting 55.4 percent from the field and hitting 22 threes. He was the team's leading rebounder as well with 6.5 rebounds per outing and added an 82.6 percent effort at the free throw line while dishing out 41 assists on the year and blocking 12 shots.
