GLASPER LEADS WONDER BOYS TO SEASON SWEEP OF BULLDOGS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Behind R.J. Glasper's 30 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in 37 minutes of play, Arkansas Tech (14-7, 8-7 GAC) completed the season sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State (3-18, 1-14 GAC) on Saturday, defeating the Bulldogs, 90-81.

  • The Wonder Boys return to play on Thursday, Feb. 8, as Tech hosts Southern Nazarene in Tucker Coliseum. The Great American Conference contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Montrell Williams set the tempo early for the Wonder Boys, scoring a fast-break dunk just 13 seconds in the game. 
  • The first half featured three ties and five lead changes. With 5:17 to play until halftime, however, Leonardo Edwards netted a jumper to give Tech a 39-35 lead and spark a 10-2 run.
  • After the Bulldogs cut their deficit to seven points on a three-point play with 21 seconds remaining, Josiah Thomas converted on a last-second triple to give the Wonder Boys a 50-40 lead the the break.
  • Tech's bench, led by Edwards' seven points, outscored SWOSU's bench 10-2 in the first period. The Wonder Boys also held a 12-3 advantage on points off turnovers. 
  • Arkansas Tech held a lead of at least eight points throughout the final 20 minutes of play. The Wonder Boys' largest lead of 19 points came on three separate occasions, the first on a Thomas free-throw to give Tech a 63-44 lead with 16:12 remaining.
  • Tech was outscored 41-40 in the second half, but the Wonder Boys held the Bulldogs to shoot just 38.2 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from behind the arc. 

NOTABLES

  • The Wonder Boys posted a field-goal percentage of 44.6 percent for the game, while limited SWOSU to 43.1 percent. Arkansas Tech also outscored the Bulldogs 38-30 in the paint, 14-3 on points off turnovers, 21-15 on second-chance points and 20-18 on bench points.
  • Arkansas Tech committed a season-low six turnovers in the victory.
  • Glasper reached 30 points for the second time this season, and his eight assists are a career-high. Williams followed with 14 points and eight rebounds. 
  • In his first game since Jan. 6, Edwards totaled 12 points and seven rebounds in just 11 minutes of action, while Alex Brown added 11 points, six boards, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
