WONDER BOYS FALL TO MULERIDERS IN MAGNOLIA

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Despite a combined 40 points, 15 rebounds and six assists from R.J. Glasper and Alex Brown, the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys dropped a 90-80 decision to the Southern Arkansas Muleriders on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first six minutes of play featured one tie and seven lead changes, but a 12-0 run by Southern Arkansas (13-11, 9-9 GAC) gave the Muleriders a 24-13 lead with 11:50 to play until halftime.
  • Arkansas Tech (15-9, 9-9 GAC) responded with a 15-4 run over the next two minutes, concluding with a three by Josiah Thomas to pull the Wonder Boys within seven points. 
  • SAU was able to maintain a lead of at least six for the rest of the half, but a triple by Mason Cline with 21 seconds left in the period brought the score to 47-40 in favor of the Muleriders at the break.
  • Alex Brown scored four consecutive points to start the second half, pulling Tech within three points. The Muleriders outscored Tech 23-9 over the next eight minutes, however, taking their largest lead of 17 points at 70-53 with 10:31 to play. 
  • With 6:05 remaining in the contest, Brown netted a midrange jumper to pull Tech within eight points, and three minutes later, R.J. Glasper scored four consecutive free-throws to cut SAU's lead to 80-75. 
  • Southern Arkansas outscored Arkansas Tech 10-5 in the final three minutes of action, escaping with a 80-70 win. 

NOTABLES

  • With the loss, the Wonder Boys fall into a tie with SAU for sixth place in the Great American Conference standings.
  • Southern Arkansas posted a 49.2 field-goal percentage, while Tech was held to 41.2 percent from the field. The Muleriders netted 15 three-pointers in the contest, shooting 53.6 percent from deep. 
  • The Wonder Boys forced SAU into 15 turnovers, and Tech outscored the Muleriders 25-11 in points off turnovers. 
  • Glasper led all scorers with 21 points, his 11th 20-point performance this season. He added 10 rebounds and four assists, securing his second straight double-double. Brown finished with 19 points and five rebounds, and Leonardo Edwards had 12 points and seven boards.
