WONDER BOYS HOLD OFF FURIOUS RALLY IN SEASON-OPENING WIN

ST. PAUL, MinnesotaAlex Brown had a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double, while RJ Glasper had a 19-point, six-rebound, five-assist performance as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (1-0) opened the 2018-19 season with a 74-71 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday afternoon at the Gangelhoff Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the two teams traded buckets over the first four minutes, the Wonder Boys used an 8-0 run to go from a 5-5 tie with a 13-5 lead with 13:43 remaining in the opening half. 
  • Tech pushed its lead into double figures at the 8:43 mark of the half on a 3-pointer by Mason Cline
  • A Jacob Patterson layup gave Tech a 21-point (40-19) advantage with 2:30 remaining in the half. 
  • The Wonder Boys took their largest lead of the half at 22 points (42-20) on an Alex Brown layup with 2:02 to play. 
  • The Wonder Boys carried a 20-point (42-22) lead into the half.
  • A Brown jumper at the 18:20 mark of the second half gave the Wonder Boys a 23-point (48-25) lead, Tech's largest lead of the contest.
  • Tech held a 20-point (57-37) advantage at the 11:46 mark after a jumper by Brown.
  • Crookston went on a 9-0 run to pull to within 11 (59-48) after a Harrison Cleary 3-pointer with 8:13 to play. 
  • Another 3-pointer by Chase Knickerbocker pulled the Golden Eagles to within nine with 5:33 to play. 
  • UMC got to within four points twice in the final minutes, narrowing the final deficit to three on another Knickerbocker 3-pointer in the closing seconds. 
NOTABLES
  • Tech had a 15-3 advantage in second-chance points, and a 14-11 advantage in bench points, while UMC held a 16-6 advantage in points off turnovers and a 34-30 advantage in paint points. 
  • UMC held a 44.4 to 42.2 advantage in shooting percentage but the Wonder Boys connected on 12 of 16 free throws while UMC was 6 of 9, while holding a 46-31 rebounding advantage. 
  • UMC had seven blocks to Tech's one. 
  • The Wonder Boys committed 13 turnovers and forced eight.
