WONDER BOYS DROP TRIPLE-OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER TO GOLDEN BEARS

ST. PAUL, MinnesotaAlex Brown turned in a 32-point, seven-rebound performance; R.J. Glasper had a 24-point, seven-assist evening, leading a cast of six Wonder Boys players to reach double figures as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (1-1) fell 118-113 in a triple-overtime heartbreaker against Concordia-St. Paul (2-0) on Sunday at the Gangelhoff Center.

NEXT UP
  • The Wonder Boys return to action on Friday, Nov. 16, playing Illinois-Springfield in Warrensburg, Missouri. A 3 p.m. tip is scheduled.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Concordia raced out to an eight-point (10-2) lead just under three minutes into the game.
  • The Wonder Boys clawed back, pulling to within one (18-17) with 10:37 remaining in the half on a pair of free throws by Eric Turner
  • The Golden Bears again stretched the lead to eight (29-21) at the 7:09 mark after an and-one play by Bryndan Matthews.
  • Tech again cut it to one (37-36) with 2:38 remaining in the half before Concordia stretched its advantage back to six (44-38) with 30 seconds to play in the half. Turner buried a 3-pointer right before the buzzer to send the Wonder Boys into the break down three (44-41).
  • A 3-pointer by Brown at the 18:41 mark of the second half gave Arkansas Tech its first lead of the contest at 46-44.
  • Concordia answered with a 3-pointer 20 seconds later to reclaim the lead, but Jacob Patterson's layup at the 17:53 mark put the Wonder Boys ahead 48-47.
  • Tech stretched its lead to five (52-47) after a jumper by Glasper moments later, and claimed a six-point lead with 3:30 to play in regulation after another layup by Glasper.
  • A free-throw by Brown with 59 seconds remaining in regulation gave Tech a nine-point (77-68) lead, but the Wonder Boys went cold from the charity stripe, connecting on two of six free throws in the final minute of regulation, allowing the Golden Bears to knot the game with two seconds remaining on a long 3-pointer by Isiah McKay.
  • The two teams traded leads in the opening stages of the first overtime, but Concordia seized the advantage and grabbed a five-point (92-87) lead with 50 seconds remaining. However, RJ Glasper was able to hit a 3 in the final seconds of the overtime to knot the contest and send it to a second overtime (93-93).
  • Neither team claimed more than a 3-point advantage in the second overtime, and Mason Cline's game-tying 3-pointer with 43 seconds remaining knotted the game at 103-103 and send the game to a third overtime.
  • Again, the two teams traded leads in the third overtime with neither team able to create more than three points of separation; however, that changed in the final seconds of the period when the Wonder Boys missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer and were forced to foul. Concordia hit both freebies to seal a five-point win.
