SUNS FALL IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE, ENTER TOURNAMENT AS NO. 5 SEED

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Allie Anderson turned in a 15-kill performance, while Hunter Eshnaur added 10 kills, hitting .346, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (17-11, 10-6 Great American Conference) came up short in its regular-season finale, falling 3-0 to Ouachita Baptist (22-8, 11-5) on Thursday night.

  • The Golden Suns and Tigers will square off again in the opening round of the 2018 Great American Conference volleyball championship to be held November 8-10 at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Golden Suns' matchup with Ouachita will be played on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded points in the opening set, with Ouachita claiming a modest advantage before the Golden Suns narrowed the set on multiple occasions. 
  • The Golden Suns took the lead for the first time since 1-0 at 22-21, but OBU notched four of the next five points to claim a 25-23 win in the opening set.
  • Ouachita opened an 11-3 lead in the second set, but Tech clawed back to pull to within 14-10.
  • The Tigers responded by claiming nine of the next 11 points to go ahead 23-12, and OBU took a comfortable 25-16 win to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
  • The two teams battled through the third set, tying at 21-21 late in the set before OBU strung together four straight kills to claim the set 25-21 and the match 3-0. 

NOTABLES
  • Emily Acker dished out a team-high 20 assists while Delaney Saucier added 16. 
  • Meredith Darnell led Tech with nine digs. 
  • Greer Rogers had a team-best three blocks. 
  • OBU outhit Tech .349 to .204, with both teams turning in their best offensive performances in the final set - Ouachita hit .536 and Tech hit .379.
