SUNS DROP FIVE-SET HEARTBREAKER TO HARDING

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Allie Anderson turned in a 19-kill performance, hitting .372, while Hunter Eshnaur added a 15-kill, 12-dig double-double, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (17-10, 10-5 Great American Conference) was unable to overcome the red-hot fifth set hitting of the Harding Lady Bisons (21-7, 14-1), dropping a 3-2 decision on Tuesday night at Tucker Coliseum.

  • The Golden Suns return to action on Thursday, November 1, playing the final match of the 2018 regular season at Ouachita Baptist. Match time is set for 6 p.m. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tech raced out to an 8-2 advantage in the opening set. 
  • The Golden Suns later led 17-10 before Harding went on a 9-1 run to claim a 19-18 advantage late in the set.
  • After Harding edged ahead 22-21, the Golden Suns scored four of the five final points in the set, closing out the opening set with a 25-23 win. 
  • Set two was a back-and-forth contest that saw 15 ties, but the Lady Bisons stepped away from a 20-20 tie - the final tie of the set - scoring five of the next six points to claim a 25-21 victory and knot the match at one set apiece. 
  • The third set mirrored the second set, with 15 tie scores through the 15-15 point. 
  • Tech's point to tie the set at 15-15 started a run where the Golden Suns scored five of six to claim a 19-16 advantage. 
  • While Harding would narrow the set to one point four times, Tech held on for the 25-22 victory to go ahead 2-1 in the match. 
  • Harding raced out to an 8-3 advantage in set four. 
  • The Golden Suns were able to pull to within three points on four separate occasions but could not get any closer, falling 25-21 as Harding evened the match at two sets apiece. 
  • The Lady Bisons controlled the tempo throughout set five, hitting a match-best .353 and committing just one error en route to a 15-7 win to seal the match victory. 
NOTABLES
  • Anderson's 19 kills tied Harding's Emily Clayton for a match high.
  • Emily Acker dished out 49 assists and added nine digs. 
  • Eshnaur (15 kills) and Greer Rogers (11 kills) also reached double figures in kills. 
  • Meredith Darnell led the Golden Suns with 24 digs. Madison Grantham (15), Eshnaur (12) and Mackenzie Eford (10) all reached double figures. 
  • Rogers had a six-block performance, with four solo and two assisted. 
  • Tech hit .163 for the match but hit over .200 in the first and third sets, going for a match-high .267 in the opening set.
