SUNS SWEEP BLOSSOMS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech turned in a red-hot offensive performance, hitting .418 and smashing home 40 kills as the Golden Suns volleyball team (16-9, 9-4 Great American Conference) swept to a 3-0 win over Arkansas-Monticello (6-23, 3-10) on Tuesday night at Tucker Coliseum.

  • Arkansas Tech heads to Magnolia on Thursday, Oct. 25, to face Southern Arkansas. A 6 p.m. match time is scheduled. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tech raced out in the opening set, opening an 18-6 lead before forcing set point at 24-10. 
  • UAM scored four straight points to pull to within 24-14 before Greer Rogers closed out the set with a 25-14 win. 
  • The two teams traded points in the second set, but with the Golden Suns leading 6-5, Tech scored eight of the next ten points to go ahead 14-7.
  • Tech continued to stretched its lead and closed out the set with three consecutive points to win the second set 25-15. 
  • Tech again used a strong run to build a big lead in the third set, scoring seven consecutive points after UAM pulled to within 9-7 to claim a 16-7 lead. 
  • UAM twice pulled to within seven, but the Golden Suns closed out the set and match with back-to-back points to seal the 3-0 sweep. 
NOTABLES
  • Hunter Eshnaur led all players with 13 kills, while Allie Anderson added 10. 
  • Meredith Darnell turned in three service aces while Eshnaur added two. 
  • Greer Rogers had a four-block evening, Eshnaur turned in three and Anderson added two.
  • Emily Acker dished out a match-best 23 assists.
  • Darnell led all players with 10 digs.
  • Tech hit .418 for the match, going for a game-best .458 in the final set. 
  • Eshnaur hit .423 and Rogers hit .583 in the win, but Anderson led the way with her .600 hiting percentage, notching 10 kills on 15 swings with just one attack error.
