SUNS FALL IN ARKADELPHIA

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Allie Anderson turned in a team-best 11 kills while Emily Acker added a 29-assist, 19-dig double-double, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (15-9, 8-4 Great American Conference) was unable to overcome the hot hitting of Henderson State (22-4, 10-2), falling 3-0 to the Reddies on Thursday evening at the Duke Wells Center.

  • The Golden Suns return to action on Tuesday, October 23 hosting UAM at Tucker Coliseum. A 6 p.m. match is scheduled.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening set saw 11 lead changes. 
  • Tech broke a 16-16 tie and jumped ahead 20-16 before HSU scored the final nine points of the opening set to claim a 25-20 win and jump ahead 1-0 in the match. 
  • The second set was another back-and-forth affair through the opening points, with the teams slugging it out to a 13-13 score to open the set. 
  • HSU then scored four consecutive points to jump ahead 17-13, and the Reddies would not trail again in the set, winning a 25-21 decision to pull ahead 2-0. 
  • The third set saw both teams trade points, again going back-and-forth to open up 11-11.
  • After the Reddies used a 5-0 run to jump ahead 16-11, Tech rallied to claim a 20-19 set lead. 
  • HSU responded by scoring five of the next seven points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0. 

NOTABLES
  • Tech outblocked Henderson State 9-8, while the Reddies held a 5-2 advantage in service aces.
  • Henderson outhit Tech .200 to .128.
  • Acker's 29 assists and 19 digs were both match highs; Meredith Darnell also added 19 digs to tie for the match lead. 
  • Greer Rogers' five blocks led all players.
  • Anderson hit .233, while Rilie Vote hit .294 (7 kills, 2 errors, 17 attacks) to lead the Golden Suns.
