WONDER BOYS FALL IN MONTICELLO

MONTICELLO, Ark. –  RJ Glasper turned in a team-high 28 points, Montrell Williams added 14 points and Harris Brown added 12, but the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (11-5, 5-5 Great American Conference) came up short in a 94-72 loss to Arkansas-Monticello (10-5, 5-4) on Thursday evening at Steelman Fieldhouse.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Wonder Boys scored the opening points of the game, UAM used a 9-0 run to claim a seven-point lead (9-2) with 16:34 remaining in the opening half.
  • UAM held Tech at arm's length over the next several minutes. The Wonder Boys narrowed the gap to three (13-10) after a layup by Montrell Williams with 14:21 to play in the half, but UAM stretched out the advantage again, opening up an eight-point advantage (22-14) at the 11:23 mark.
  • The Weevils pushed the advantage to nine points (26-17) at the under-eight media timeout (7:43).        
  • Twice UAM pushed its lead to double figures, but the Wonder Boys were able to pull to within seven (32-25) at the under-four media timeout (3:47).
  • RJ Glasper hit a pair of free throws on the other side of the timeout to pull Tech to within five (32-27).
  • The Weevils were able to take a 10-point (44-34) lead into the half.
  • UAM controlled the opening minutes of the second half, using an 8-0 run to push ahead by 18 points (52-34) with 17:52 remaining.
  • The UAM lead topped 20 points (59-37) as Cobe Goosby converted a 3-point play with 14:36 remaining, and the Wonder Boys were unable to significantly cut into the Weevils' margin as UAM held on for the victory.
NOTABLES
  • Tech was outshot 54.1 percent to 39.3 percent, while UAM held a 36-32 advantage in rebounding.
  • Both team made good use of their trips to the charity stripe – Tech shot 81.8 percent (18-of-22) and UAM shot 80.8 percent (21-of-26).
  • Tech held a 19-7 advantage in bench points, while UAM outscored Tech 17-8 on second-chance points.
  • Williams led Tech with seven boards, while Freddy Lee dished out five assists.
