WONDER BOYS SET FOR BOLL WEEVILS AND TIGERS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Following a win on Monday that snapped their three-game losing streak, the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys will look to stay hot against Arkansas-Monticello and Ouachita this week in Great American Conference action. Tech will travel to Monticello to take on UAM at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, before hosting Ouachita in Russellville at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Arkansas Tech leads the all-time series against Arkansas-Monticello, 98-49. The Wonder Boys won two of the three matchups last season, the 88-79 Boll Weevil win came in the second round of the GAC tournament.

Ouachita leads the all-time series against Tech, 83-74. However, the Wonder Boys swept the Tigers last season and have won six of the last ten matchups.

SCOUTING THE WONDER BOYS

Arkansas Tech (11-4, 5-4 GAC) currently sits fifth in the GAC standings after the Wonder Boys dropped three of their last four conference games.

The Wonder Boys rank ninth in Division II in scoring and are the only team in the GAC averaging over 90 points per game. Tech is fifth in Division II in three-pointers per game, and 15th in opponent three-point percentage. 

R.J. Glasper is coming off a career-high 35-point game against Harding. Over the past four games Glasper is averaging 20.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists, while shooting .437 from behind the arc. Glasper ranks fourth in the conference with 18.1 points per contest. Glasper is 11th in Division II in free-throw percentage (.919). Alex Brown leads the Wonder Boys with 7.2 rebounds per game, while Freddy Lee averages 5.2 assists and ranks fifth in Division II in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.71). 

SCOUTING THE BOLL WEEVILS

After losing back-to-back conference matchups to Northwestern Oklahoma State and Ouachita, Arkansas-Monticello (9-5, 4-4 GAC) found the win column with a victory over Henderson State on Saturday. The Boll Weevils currently sit in sixth in the GAC standings.

UAM averages 83.6 points per game, while allowing 74.1 points. The Weevils have a high powered offense that ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (.504), third in scoring (83.6) and third in scoring margin (+9.6).UAM also sits atop the GAC in assists (18.1) and steals (9.4) per game. Monticello is the only team in the GAC to have four players averaging over 15 points per game. Derylton Hill leads UAM attack as he ranks fifth in the GAC with 17.0 points per game. Hill also ranks fourth in the conference in rebounding and sixth in field goal percentage. Hill has scored at least 20 points in four of his last five games this season. The trio of Cobe Goosby, Tyrin Jones and Karim Mawuenyega are all ranked inside the top-15 in the GAC in scoring at 15 points per game or better.  

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Ouachita (5-8, 3-5 GAC) has lost seven of its last eight games. The 82-78 Tiger win came against Arkansas-Monticello at Bill Vining Arena. The Tigers host Southern Arkansas this Thursday before traveling to Russellville on Saturday. 

Ouachita is one of the better rebounding teams in the conference as it is ranked first in rebounding defense (29.7), third in rebounding margin (+5.2), and third in offensive rebounds per game (11.8). Mahlon Martin paces OUA with 12.5 points and 3.6 assists per game, while Jordan Corbitt leads the Tigers with 5.0 rebounds per game.
