SEARCY, Ark. – RJ Glasper scored a career-high 35 points, leading a cast of four Wonder Boys to reach double figures as Arkansas Tech (11-4, 5-4 Great American Conference) hold off a furious second-half rally by Harding (1-13, 1-8), downing the Bison 98-94 on Monday night at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wonder Boys held Harding off the board for almost five minutes to start the game, opening up a 7-0 advantage.
- A Jerami Grace 3-pointer extended the Tech lead to nine (13-4) with 14:03 to play in the opening half.
- Tech pushed its lead into double digits (15-4) seconds later on a Trevin Woods layup.
- Tech pushed its lead out to 14 points twice (18-4 and 22-8), but Harding was able to cut the Tech advantage to nine (22-13) with 9:40 remaining.
- Harding turned to the 3-pointer again to cut the Tech lead to five (24-19) with 8:03 remaining in the opening half.
- Out of the media timeout, Harding hit a pair of free throws to cut the Tech lead further down to three (24-21) with 7:01 remaining.
- Back-to-back 3-pointers by the Wonder Boys pushed the Tech lead back to ten (33-23) with 4:51 to go in the half.
- After Tech opened up a 12-point (35-23) advantage at the 3:43 mark, Harding scored nine unanswered points to pull to within three (35-32) once again at the 1:45 mark.
- Tech stretched its lead back out to seven (39-32) at the half.
- Tech pushed its lead back to 11 (43-32) at the 19:17 mark as Alex Brown scored the first four points of the second half.
- The Wonder Boys again seized a 13-point advantage (47-34) when RJ Glasper buried a 3-pointer with 18:03 remaining.
- Harding went on a run of its own to cut the Tech lead to five (47-42) with 16:24 to play.
- Glasper hit a pair of layups to stretch the Wonder Boys' lead back to nine (51-42) with 16:03 remaining.
- After Harding narrowed the Tech lead to five (53-48) with 14:13 to play, Glasper hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push the Wonder Boys' lead back out to 11 (59-48) with 13:31 to play.
- Glasper scored 18 of Tech's 20 points in a three-minute stretch that saw the Wonder Boys increase their lead to 12 (73-61) with 10:59 to play.
- Harding cut the Tech lead back into single digits, narrowing the gap to seven points (78-71) after a Zac Ward jumper with 8:00 remaining.
- Tech pushed the lead back into double figures, grabbing an 11-point (82-71) lead at the 7:33 mark and leading into the under-8 media timeout.
- The Wonder Boys pushed the lead back to 13 (84-71) on a pair of Montrell Williams free throws after the media timeout, but Harding cut it to single digits at the 5:31 mark on a pair of Brandon Reeves free-throws.
- The Bisons put together a 5-0 run to cut the Tech lead to six (86-80) with 3:57 remaining and lead into the final media timeout.
- After Tech pushed ahead by eight, Harding again cut into the Tech advantage, pulling to within four (88-84) with 2:04 remaining.
- Josiah Thomas hit four free throws to push the Tech lead to eight (92-84) with 1:20 remaining, but Harding used a layup, steal, and another layup to once again pull to within four (92-88) with 59.8 seconds to play.
- Harding narrowed the gap to three (93-90) with 35 seconds remaining.
- After Josiah Thomas hit a pair of free throws with 33 seconds on the clock to stretch the Tech lead back to five (95-90), Harding's Alex Francis buried a long 3-pointer to cut the Tech lead to two (95-93) and Harding was forced to foul on the subsequent possession.
- After Thomas hit his first free throw, Harding called timeout with the Wonder Boys holding a 96-93 lead with 14.4 seconds to play. Thomas missed the second free-throw and Trevin Woods was fouled with 9.1 seconds left and the Wonder Boys holding a 96-94 lead.
- Woods hit both free throws to push the Tech lead back to four points (98-94), and the Wonder Boys held on for the win.
NOTABLES
- Tech was held without a field goal from the 5:06 mark of the second half until the end of the game.
- Joining Glasper in double figures were Josiah Thomas (14 points), Montrell Williams (12 points, nine rebounds), and Alex Brown (10 points, 7 rebounds). Glasper also grabbed eight boards, and had five assists and three steals.
- Tech outshot Harding 46.2 to 44.4 percent.
- Today's Tech men's and women's sweep was the first sweep of Harding since February 26, 2015 at Tucker Coliseum (Golden Suns won 80-68, Wonder Boys won 77-76 in overtime) and the first sweep at Rhodes-Reaves Field House since February 20, 2012 (Golden Suns won 73-62, Wonder Boys won 82-79).
- Tech was 15-of-31 from the 3-point line.
