RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team will end its holiday break on Sunday, Dec. 31, heading to Rolla, Mo. for a New Year's Eve matinee matchup against the Miners of Missouri S&T. Tip-off from the Gabe Bullman Multi-Purpose Building is set for 2 p.m.
The Wonder Boys (8-1) and Miners (2-7) will meet for the second consecutive New Year's Eve, after the Wonder Boys topped the Miners 91-88 in Russellville last year. Alex Brown's 40 points led Tech, and the junior from Vernon, Fla. has continued to be a force for the Wonder Boys on both ends of the court, averaging 10.6 points and a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game. Six Wonder Boys have double-figure scoring averages, led by R.J. Glasper's 16.6 points per game. The prolific Tech offense averages over 91 points per game, and Tech rides a six-game win streak into Sunday's non-conference finale. Tech last took to the hardwood on Tuesday, Dec. 19, knocking off Northeastern State 100-88 in Tahlequah.
Meanwhile, the Miners have kept a slower pace offensively, but still have six players averaging in double figures. Chris Harris leads MST with 15.0 points per game, while Sebastian Ferenc is the Miners' top two-way threat, averaging 12.5 points and 8.6 boards per game. Ervin Sarajlic averages 11.3 points, 7.6 boards, and is a 41.5 percent shooter from 3-point range, leading the Miners from beyond the arc.Â
The Miners have struggled through the majority of the early portion of the season, with their lone two wins coming against non-Division II opposition. After an 86-58 win over William Woods on Dec. 9, the Miners fell 96-87 to Harris-Stowe in their final pre-holiday matchup.Â
Sunday's game will be carried live on 102.3 FM (KCJC) in Russellville. Live audio, video, and statistics are available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
