WONDER BOYS DOWN RIVERHAWKS

Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. R.J. Glasper came off the bench to score 20 points and grab six boards, Alex Brown turned in a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double, while three other Wonder Boys ended up in double figures as the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team (4-1) won a non-conference tilt 88-76 over Northeastern State (3-3) on Saturday afternoon at Tucker Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wonder Boys created separation in the early minutes of the game, opening up a five-point (9-4) advantage just under four minutes in.
  • After the RiverHawks briefly claimed an advantage minutes later, it was Tech again creating separation, opening a lead that reached double figures (27-16) with 9:25 to play in the opening half and grew as big as 16 points (44-28) with 2:42 to go until halftime.
  • The RiverHawks closed the opening half on a 10-3 run to pull to within nine (47-38) at the break.
  • In the second half, Tech quickly pushed back ahead by double figures, using back-to-back 3-pointers to claim a 14-point (55-41) advantage with 18:01 to play.
  • NSU pulled to within five (63-58) with 10:46 to play after a fastbreak layup by Marquise Harris, but an 8-0 run by the Wonder Boys stretched the lead back into double figures.
  • The RiverHawks were able to pull to within seven within the final two minutes, but the Wonder Boys hit free throws down the stretch to preserve the lead and seal the victory.
NOTABLES
  • The Wonder Boys' win spoiled the return to Tucker Coliseum of former head coach Mark Downey, who is in his first year as the head coach at Northeastern State after serving as the Wonder Boys coach from 2006-2010.
  • Tech held the advantage in points off turnovers (20-16), bench points (42-37), second-chance points (11-9) and fast-break points (8-6) while NSU led in points in the paint (46-24).
  • Joining Glasper and Brown in double figure points were Freddy Lee (10), Montrell Williams (11), and Harris Brown (15).
  • NSU held a 45-41 rebounding advantage for the game, but Tech made the most of its trips to the charity stripe, connecting on 23-of-26 opportunities.
