WILLIAMS HITS GAME-WINNING 3-POINTER TO PROPEL WONDER BOYS TO WIN

DURANT, Okla. –  Montrell Williams scored 16 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (3-1, 1-1 Great American Conference) defeat Southeastern Oklahoma (1-3, 1-1 GAC) 84-82 on Saturday at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The Wonder Boys return to Tucker Coliseum for a four-game home stand that will begin on Saturday, Nov. 25, facing Northeastern State in a 2 p.m. contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tech opened the game on a hot streak, outscoring Southeastern 10-0 over the first three minutes.
  • Southeastern rallied, using an 8-0 run to pull with two at the 15:53 mark.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth, but Southeastern Oklahoma pushed ahead slightly, grabbing an 18-16 lead at the under-12 media timeout (11:58).
  • With the Savage Storm holding a two-point (18-16) advantage with 11:26 remaining, Tech outscored the Savage Storm 14-6 to take a 30-24 lead with 7:55 remaining in the opening half.
  • The Wonder Boys pushed their lead to eight points after Trevin Woods hit a 3-pointer to put the score at 39-31 at the 3:19 minute mark.
  • Southeastern cut the Wonder Boys lead to six at the 1:06 minute mark but Tech was able to push its lead back to eight after RJ Glasper hit a layup as the first half ended to put the score at 46-38.
  • Arkansas Tech shot 45.9 percent from the field while holding Southeastern to 41.7 percent from the field in the opening half.
  • The Savage Storm opened the second half on a 6-2 run to cut the Tech lead to seven with the score at 48-41 with 19:28 remaining in the half.
  • The Wonder Boys weathered the Southeastern rally with back-to-back 3-pointers from Alex Brown to help Tech build a 13-point lead (54-41) at the 18:00 minute mark.
  • Southeastern would score 10 of the next 12 points to trim the Wonder Boy lead to five (56-51) with 15:10 remaining in regulation.
  • Tech answered with a 6-0 run to push its lead back to double digits (62-51) with 13:31 remaining.
  • The Savage Storm cut would score the next seven points to cut the lead to four (62-58) at the under-12 media timeout. (11:59)
  • An A. Brown 3-pointer pushed the Wonder Boy lead to seven (65-58) at the 11:48 minute mark.
  • Over the next two minutes, Tech would hit four free throws to push its lead to 11 (69-58) with 9:07 remaining in regulation.
  • Southeastern Oklahoma closed the gap to eight after Bobby Johnson hit a jumper, but a Glasper layup on the following possession pushed the lead back to ten (75-65) with 6:21 remaining in the game.
  • A DJ Henderson 3-pointer capped a 6-2 run for the Savage Storm, putting the score at 77-71 with 3:26 left in regulation.
  • Markell Henderson trimmed hit a pair of free throws to help Southeastern trim the Wonder Boy lead to four (77-73) at the 2:35 minute mark.
  • After both teams traded baskets, Tech maintained a four-point advantage (79-75) with 1:55 remaining in regulation.
  • Southeastern pulled within two after a Markell Henderson jumper put the score at 79-77 with 1:23 remaining.
  • Glasper hit a pair of free throws to give Tech a four-point advantage (81-77), but a Jett Lobe layup and a free throw brought the Savage Storm within one (81-80) with 49 seconds remaining.
  • Kevin Buckingham hit a layup to help Southeastern retake the lead (82-81) with six seconds left in the game.
  • Seconds after Southeastern regained the lead, Williams hit a contested 3-pointer to give the Wonder Boys the win.
NOTABLES
  • Arkansas Tech moves to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
  • The Wonder Boys shot 41.1 percent from the floor, while Southeastern shot 42.4 percent.
  • Glasper led the Wonder Boys in rebounding with a career-high nine boards. A. Brown also grabbed nine rebounds.
  • Tech had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Glasper with 19, A. Brown with 17, Williams with 16 and Woods with 11.
  • Tech held a 44-42 advantage on the rebounding glass.
  • The Savage Storm outscored Tech 30-28 in the paint.
